Paladin/Ranger Weapon Specialization (2E)

In the player option books Skills and Powers and Combat and tactics there are rules allowing weapon speciazation in various ways.

U tend to allow them if fighters are allowed to go down the grandmaster path in Combat and Tactics.

However it seems to imply it's level gated and fighters can get it from level 1.

Just wondering if anyone else has used the rules and how.

I can add a custom title.
It's been too long since I've looked at them, but I'd run it like in the icewind dale/baldurs gate games. Every warrior class can reach specialisation from level 1. Fighters at higher levels can move into the various mastery tiers (from memory there was a 5th level requirement for mastery in skills and powers). Specialisation in more than one group I would also allow.

I'd probably also stick with broad weapon groups rather than individual weapons.

Yes, 2e Fighters, only, had access to weapon specialization right in the PH.

In 1e UA, you specialized at 1st level, 2e allowed you to also do so later, FWIW.

In my Campaigns I tend to allow it, provided that the Party does not have a pure single class fighter! And that, only in case of Specialization and not anything higher like Mastery for example.

Normally, my Parties range between 2-4 PCs max, so I think it makes sense to allow it, in order to give them some more melee power.
In other case, I tend to follow the rules, which dictate that only single class fighter is allowed to specialize.
