I've recently lost a character, and now I've brought in a new one at 4th-level: a human paladin. I'm pretty happy with the build so far, but would like ideas for future development: feats, stat points, must-have items, etc.
Here's him now:
STR: 16
DEX: 8
CON: 14
INT: 10
WIS: 14
CHA: 14
Feats: Power Attack, Cleave, Extra Smiting
His main weapon is a +1 adamantine greatsword. I like combining power attacks with smite evil and/or charging to convert the extra +2 or +4 to hit to an extra 4 or 8 points of damage.
At 5th-level, I'm taking the charging smite alternate paladin ability from the PHB II (instead of a special mount, you can do 3 times the smite damage if you smite on a successful charge).
Given all this, it seems like taking feats relating to charging might make sense, but I'm not sure if any would be appropriate. If not charging feats, I'm not sure what else might be good: weapon focus, maybe? Practiced spellcaster to bump paladin spellcaster level? Zen archery to help with ranged attacks?
Any and all suggestions are welcome.
