Paladin touch attack and smite

Cleric with Destruction domain + harm :p.

Here's an interesting question, though: should the smite damage add to the spell damage, and is thus halved on a successful save, or should it be added to the damage dealt after the outcome of the saving throw is determined?

Hmm, good question - I'd be inclined to treat it as seperate damage, added after the results of the spell...

BEFORE the spell and then okay. After the spell and I say no to the feat. The harm example illustrates that point effectively.

I'm inclined to agree that it should be added to spell damage and halved on a successful save, in much the same way that the extra damage from a smite with a weapon should be halved if it was used against an opponent who had some ability that allowed him to take half damage from that weapon.

What surprises me is that adding damage after the spell is such a swing factor. The difference is only half cleric level, and only on a successful save, you know. ;)
