Paladin turns as a cleric

Winternight

First Post
The Paladin in my group wants to take a feat that he can turn as a cleric of the same level.
What do you think of a feat like that

Mighty Turning
On your turn check you get a +2.

Prerequisites: Cha 13+, Extra Turning

Normal: see Turning in the PHB

or some

Rod, ring or Boots of Turning
On your turn check you get a +2.

Costs 4000 gp.

(Cloak of CHarisma +2 cost 4000, +2 on turning would be +4 on Charisma, but you lack the other boni of a high charisma)

Thanx for your answers

What you want is a phylactery of turning- it adds +4 to your class level as far as turning undead is concerned. Costs 11,000. A variant that adds +2 would cost 25% as much. In a non-standard slot it would cost 1.5 times as much, so 4000 would be right on.

The feat looks good, too, except you want to say that it adds +2 to your class level, not your turn check.

You must be using 3.0e rules. In 3.5e, a paladin turns undead as a cleric of 3 levels below his paladin level.

Note that there is a feat in 3.5e called Improved Turning which allows the character to turn undead as if he was one level higher. Its prerequisite is the ability to turn undead, so a paladin could take it at 6th level.

There is also a magic item called the Phylactery of Undead Turning, which allows a character to turn undead as if he was four levels higher. Its market price is 11,000 gp.

Note that a bonus to turning level (granted by the feat and item above) is different from and much better than a bonus to the turning check (granted by a high Charisma). On average, a +1 bonus to turning level is worth a +3 bonus to turning checks, and allows a character to turn higher level undead since you can only turn creature a maximum of 4 HD above your effective turning level.

There's a feat in Dragon #306 that lets paladins turn undead as clerics of the same level. The reqs are divine grace (IOW, must be a paladin--they might as well have just come out and said so), the ability to turn undead (so you'll still have to wait a few levels to take the feat), and Pelor as a patron deity.
