Paladin's mount

I was reading the PHB errata, and came across this:

Special Mount, Player's Handbook, page 44
Text doesn’t mention what level of spell this spell-like ability represents.
After the first sentence of the second paragraph, insert:
This ability is the equivalent of a spell of a level equal to one-third the paladin’s class level.

Does this mean, that a 9th level paladin can have his mount counterspelled from underneath him by a wizard using Improved Counterspell?

On a side note, can it be dispelled by dispel magic? This mount is suppressed by an antimagic field...

Could a paladin take the Augment Summoning feat to give his mount a +4 Str and Con? Take a leevl of alienist and add the pseudonatural template...

Somehow, this mount seems to get just weirder and wierder.

Yeah, they dramatically changed the paladin mount in 3.5. They should have renamed it pokémount to bring attention to the changes.

The longer, more detailed explanation is as follows:

SRD:Classes said:
Special Mount (Sp): (snip)
Calling a mount is a conjuration (calling) effect.

SRD:Magic Overview said:
Calling: (snip)
The duration of a calling spell is instantaneous, which means that the called creature can’t be dispelled.

Spell-Like Abilities: (snip)
Spell-like abilities cannot be used to counterspell, nor can they be counterspelled.

SRD:Feats said:
AUGMENT SUMMONING [GENERAL]
Prerequisite: Spell Focus (conjuration).
Benefit: Each creature you conjure with any summon spell gains a +4 enhancement bonus to Strength and Constitution for the duration of the spell that summoned it.

SRD:Spells said:
Antimagic Field
(snip)
The effects of instantaneous conjurations are not affected by an antimagic field because the conjuration itself is no longer in effect, only its result.

I do agree that setting the level equivalent of the spell-like ability to one-third the paladin level is rather silly, though. IMC, I would house-rule it to the equivalent of a 3rd-level spell, since it functions like an Extended Call Mount (2nd-level spell from Book of Exalted Deeds).

Calling the mount is still a spell-like ability, not a spell as such. Therefore it can't be counterspelled.
