I have questions about paladin characters. What is a good magic armor or weapons for a flying mounted paladin? Are there any good mounted combat prestige classes from wizards books, dragon or dungeon magazines or here on the boards? I am playing a mounted combat specialist that is a dragonborn paladin 6/duskblade 4 is just got a hippogriff as his mount.

Wouldnt a pegasus be a better paladin mount than a hippogriff?

Well normally flying mounts just scream ranged weaponry, but you are melee, so.....lance, and charge.

My 16th-level paladin has a griffon mount.

Armor:

He's currently running with +1 (boosted to +4 with Magic Vestment) Full Plate of Fortification. He also has a +4 shield of reflecting, and a +2 ring of protection. He depends on the druid for a natural armor bonus from Barkskin. If he didn't have that available, he'd most definitely also have an amulet of natural armor.

Weapons:

His mainstay is a +4 holy longsword. In the low- to mid-levels most of our adventures were in dungeons, so there wasn't enough room to summon his mount and engage in charging attacks, so his main weapon needed to be something that could be used mounted and unmounted. A longsword still gets double-damage on a mounted charge if you have Spirited Charge.

His backup weapon is a masterwork lance. I'd always meant to enchant it, but always had other things to pick up, and nowadays it isn't necessary, since he simply casts Holy Sword on it in the first round (when his mount is gaining altitude for dive attacks).

His ranged weapon is a masterwork composite shortbow, strength adjusted +4. He doesn't use it unless he has to, so it's never been enchanted, but he has it in case he needs it. Always Be Prepared ain't just for Boy Scouts. ;)

If you can get one, thats a big IF. Special flying mounts become available quite slowly. Combo that with the low carry capacity flight enforces and one has a recipie for Hilarious Disaster.

Fly
A creature with a fly speed can move through the air at the indicated speed if carrying no more than a light load. (Note that medium armor does not necessarily constitute a medium load.)

Flying mounts can’t fly in medium or heavy barding.

I've never looked at it in detail but there's the Skylord PrC from the Book of Exalted Deeds. It's all about mounted flying combat. A prereq. is being an elf or half-elf and the mount it gives you is either a Celestial Giant Eagle, Celestial Giant Owl or Celestial Pegasus. But I'm sure it can be tweaked to fit you.
