Paranoia XP- Experiences?

Tomorrow I start a Paranoia XP game for some friends, and while I'm pretty confident as to how I'm going to run the game (I've had D&D games stray towards Paranoia terrirtory before, mostly when I wad first DMing), I'd still like to hear other's advice/opinions. What do you think of Paranoia XP? Have you run it? What should I (not) do?

I'm a big fan of the game. I really like the improvemnts. They went a long way to make the game substainible into a campaign. They kept everything I loved about the game and just made it better. I've ran it a few times now and aside from alittle difficulting with some people understanding how the game works and is different from other (non fun RPGs) they went very well.

Perverstiy points are a godsend. They promote the players working against each other and sow seeds of discords.

The biggest change is that all treason does not have to result in player death. They have an option that allows fines to be given to players. Players max so much money depending on the clearance level and if they get fined too much, then the clone has to entera confession booth. They also have rules for aquiring more clones so characters sustain themsleves even longer.

Another good suggstion is to not worry what new characters know. THe players are what's important so what they know the new characters know. It can keep things simple in a game with a high mortality rate.

The game aslo supports three styles of play (with rumors of new styles being released at Gen Con I think). There is straight, which is like first edition. THere is no humor to the game it is pure paranoia and horror as you can literally trust no one and things are not what they seem. THere is the classic style which is more like the second edition game that has elemtnes of comedy but some serios ness to it. THen there is zap, this is the convention type games that character burn through clones before they get out of briefing, filled wiuth puns, and a bit like toon.
 

This game absolutely rawks! And so does this version.


I've played 2 of the 3 versions, and this is by far the best incarnation. I've run a few games already and also have nothing but good things to say about the quality of the printed material. It's top notch. That said, it's also pretty damn pricey. That's what you get, I suppose, when you write games in the U.K. with your costs in pounds and your receipts (for the most part) in Bucks. Also, the typeface is very tight and the pages dense. A 96-page count is probably more like a 128 pager in most other prints.

Love it.
 

Since I can't get my players to try it out, all I can say is that it READS like its an improvement. The current version of the game can be played as straight comedy to straight gritty sci-fi- and that is carried over through all the supplements I've seen so far.

I'd say that flexibility alone earns it a big thumbs up.

Yeah, from what I'vre read so far, I'm a huge fan. Tomorrow night I should get a chance to try it out, and I can't wait. I'll keep preversity points in mind, especially as a way to encourage some good ol' PVP action.

Actually, first edition was wild and zany, somewhere between classic and zap style. The straight style is apparently a more serious, more evidence-intensive style of play (less spontaneous firefights and more secret backroom deals). It sounds interesting, but it is clearly not your grandfather's Paranoia.

my bad, I've never actually seen first edition so I had that impressive by hearing other people talk about it
 

I've played at cons and have had a great time. I went out a bought a bunch of the new stuff and I'm trying to get my group to try a one shot soon. Hopefully I can talk them into it.
