Party stuck on puzzle. Any ideas?

416 equals 11
4 of one
1 of another
and 6 of the last

How did you get this? It seems to be correct, we accidentally put in 4 shields first and the blocks are stuck now, but the others can be removed.

4 shields 1 dragon 6 swords or whatever order the blocks might have to be put in.

The 11 places in the square still doesn't make sense, though, from a geometrical viewpoint. ;)

“For they sleep not, except they have done mischief; and their sleep is taken away, unless they cause some to fall -- Proverbs 4:16.”

Most likely I'm way off base but the passage sounds dire to me. Like a warning of sorts. The "they" who "sleep not" sound like undead (like the one suspended by the chains). They don't get to sleep (stay dead) because they've done mischief (some sort of evil). So their sleep is taken away (reiterating that they don't get to go onto the next world), unless they cause someone else to fall (corrupt a living person, turning them into a wraith?).

But having a puzzle doesn't fit if it's just a simple warning. So I'm probably way off base, like I said. But that's what first came to my mind.

Mr. Question: Let us know what happened when you filled in the space, I'm hooked!

I agree with these sentiments. :) Also, it does seem like ultimately what will happen is the "one who cannot sleep" will fall into the brine of intestine when you solve it - or at the very least, that creature is being severely punished for something rather evil, and I wouldn't rely on it for "hints." :)

Also, as a completely ultra-meta-cheese statement, typically DMs don't give puzzles that are ridiculously over-the-top hard because that's just not fun. If you can't figure it out and are having a horrid time with it, it's probably simpler than you think. The 4-1-6 answer is a really good one.

No mis-understanding, i specifically asked the DM what shape the indentation was in and he told me it was square.

The 416 thing never occured to us....we were just going to start randomly putting stuff in, even though the DM has sprung traps all over the place so far.

Still waiting on game update, so nothing new to report.

I wouldwatch out, the hooks may come loose on wrong answers and if they all come loose he will fall and that could be a BAD trap.

I'd second this analysis, FWIW....with one caveat:

"Is there some compelling reason to solve this puzzle right now?" Why not continue your exploration and come back to this later? :uhoh:
