Would probably start a mass shitstorm over at the forums there.....

Err, so?

That forum needs a shakeup if it allows DMs like this. :D

Everybody makes mistakes. But, people who do not admit to them either have to learn to do so, or should not be DMs. Again, IMO.

This is a multi-part puzzle. The one with the wooden blocks however, was solved : 4 shields, 1 sword, and 6 dragons worked. After placing them in they were locked and we got the impression that the rest of the puzzle has to be solved elsewhere.

Exactly.

Personally, I'd love to have your former DM and the rest in his group wander in here and check things out. These boards are an excellent and diverse resource for all 3.xe gamers. And I'm not ashamed to admit I've learned an awful lot on these boards about what good gaming is all about. Nobody's perfect, and learning always makes your gaming better.

Besides, if your former DM posted here, we'd get a chance to see the question that's burning in all of our minds:

"What was he thinking?"

Er, Nail, I'm not entirely sure that we'd want to know just why Question's ex-DM thought that trap was good for ECL15 - though, I must admit that it would be a good experience in how not to build a trap.
I also am somebody who's picked up ideas from these boards, I don't believe that admitting to learning something new is a bad thing, if you don't learn anything new, then what's the point?

On a sidenote, assuming an 18 as the starting ability for the save and increased at all levels, making it a 21, and it's a good save, and the relevant feat that's a +16 modifier at level 15, you could reasonably assume a few magic items giving bonuses of +2 or +3 each, that's still only a modifier of +22-25, at best, no save should be successful less than 25% of the time (for the DC40), assuming optimal conditions, because everything spent boosting that one save reduces everything else, which very few people would feel comfortable with, except maybe in certain settings, for example if the DM is known to use that particular save very often.

Okay, wow. This was a pretty broken trap.

While I can get +30 or more to fort and will saves by 12th in a build (and I'm guessing I could extrapolate that to make +35 by 15th), I would not assume that others would build as savemonkeys (even if they knew how to.) It also doesn't look like there were any Disable Device or Trapfinding rolls or such things going on.

This was just slightly less broken than the "frenzied berserker in an AMF vs. 8th-level party locked in the room" trap.
