Party Stumper

First Post
On sunday my party came up against a riddle I put into the adventure that stumped them. I gave them hints when they were on the right track and will do the same here. I eventually had to give them the answer doing everything but saying it. I was curious if this was just my group or if the riddle was in fact too hard so I am posting it here to see if someone from these boards can solve it.

You are in a thiev's guild working your way through the labrynth that they use for testing. The rogue spots a secret door. The door is locked but there is no locking device, this is enscribed on the door in dwarven.

''A fool and his money are soon parted, while a miser dies a lonely death. A drunkard cannot be relied upon, but a teetotaler has horrid breath. A faith so true a faith so pure the man of believe lives irrationally. A soul so empty a heart so cold the godless man lives unemotionally. The one thing that can save them all begs your speaking at this juncture.''

(Hint as given to the party)

At the speaking of the word moderation the door glimmers a bit but does not open.

(If anyone just goes listing synonyms from roget's or some other source all in one post I will not respond.)

/me takes a bow. wahey!

A nice answer for a thief in a test-maze. at that point you should have had the floor fall away revealing him to be stuck on a narrow beam, high above the floor.

I originally planned something like that, but since they spent a half an hour attempting to figure out synonyms for moderation and not getting anywhere I just let the door open.
