Pathfinder 1E PATHFINDER: A First Look

Earlier today, while pondering this issue, I came up with the idea of a fairly sizable annual collection of, say, 30 or so of this type of adventure, written 100% by "new" authors who query and submit the modules to us. In this case I mean "new" authors who have not yet been assigned a Pathfinder adventure or GameMastery Module. This would be a stand-alone softcover book, most likely. Let's say 150-200 pages long. Anyone think that would be fun?
I do. I'm not in the market for adventure paths, but I think a softcover book of stand-alone adventures would be wonderful.

If I could afford a book of one-offs, I would buy it. I trust Dungeon's content enough to buy it sight unseen, at that. Price is a huge issue for me, though. I quit buying WotC's books after they spired past the $29.95 price range.

At least you didn't say boobaloobies or golden bozos. Two of my husband's favorite words. :)
Never heard either of those, before.

(FWIW, I'd appreciate a pair of boobaloobies showing up in the art every once in a while -- kinda part of the sword & sorcery tradition...unlike sausalausages, which traditionally are kept out of sight...)

Don't mean to spoil someone else's idea of what would be cool (sorry Steel_Wind) but I did want to point out an alternate perspective on the matter. At least you didn't say boobaloobies or golden bozos. Two of my husband's favorite words. :)

None taken. I've got four kids too: 17, 14, 8 and 2 and they see my gaming stuff all the time. My 8 year old plays with us from time to time, too.

But my desire for a more adult REH Conanesque view of the game world from time to time doesn't change. Not even if it offends others' sensibilities. Not even if it inflicts a nipple or a naked ass upon my children - or yours.

They'll survive the shock, I'm sure.

That's pretty much my take on it, too. I'm the father of four (ages 2 - 10).

That said, kudos to CanadienneBacon for caring enough to monitor and keep material she doesn't approve of out of the childrens' view.

Rob,

Well they are surviving you aren't they? ;)

CB,

One assumes it won't be more than 25.99...We'll wait and see. Most of those 29.99 were in HC though. I imagine the compilation will be in softback.

Just wanted to add that I respect dissent.

Do you all remember that issue of Dungeon (I think--or was it Dragon?) that came with the BoVD supplement that was packaged separately and mailed out inside the magazine? I remember that a few folks were upset that the publisher separated the content from the rest of the magazine, but I also remember personally being grateful for said tactic. To repeat what I said earlier, I am all for nakedness at home. But I do appreciate when the choice is left up to me as a parent as to what my children view, just as those of you who'd like to see more adult material in their RPG want to be offered the choice to have it and not have your viewing pleasure quashed by censorship. The sealed Vile material seemed to accomplish both things at once, which I admired.

I think that's why you'd make this a softcover. Make it affordable enough that even if you only use one or two of them, you still feel like you've got your money worth. Maybe include an extraordinarily sexy handout section.

I think $29.99 is a good price for something like that, actually. I'm not sure it's attainable, but if enough people convert to Pathfinder and we get a true hint of the size of the "Paizo" audience, really almost anything is possible.

If I can reliably sell 5,000 copies of a book like that, we're in business. If I can sell 10,000 or 20,000 or 30,000, absolutely everything changes.

I'm sure this has already been answered elsewhere, but there seem to be a plethora of threads started since Paizo's announcement today about discontinuing Dragon and Dungeon magazines and, quite frankly, I have not kept up with all of the threads.

Joshua Frost said earlier today that all the issues of Pathfinder will have 96 pages. Could you provide an estimate of how much of those issues will be devoted to the setting, deities (fluff) vice how much will be the "crunch" of the adventure itself?
