Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder Campaign Setting Hardcover!!!

No. Everything you need to run a Pathfinder Adventure Path comes in Pathfinder itself. For example, "Rise of the Runelords" is set in a nation called Varisia, and everything you need to make that nation come alive for the campaign is provided in the monthly Pathfinder volumes. That said, there are 39 other countries (or so) in the world of Golarion, and this book gives you a lot of information about those to help you set your own campaigns there or to give you background ideas to help you add additional flavor to your Pathfinder campaigns.

Thanks for the explanation and it makes sense. I look forward to getting it next year.

I am sorry about the confusion. When I think of Pathfinder, the brand, I think of the adventure path subscription. I didn't have that issue with Greyhawk (or insert setting)...mostly because I didn't have a subscription to them first as a serial.

Good luck in overcoming that barrier. I'll do my part in buying it.

The book is not a compilation of material from Pathfinder. Think of Pathfinder as the Age of Worms Adventure Path, and the Pathfinder Chronicles Campaign Setting as a World of Greyhawk book.

I fully intended to make my next D&D campaign (whatever edition it may be) set in Golarion. "Too bad there's no setting book," thought I. This seals the deal. Thanks Paizo!

Edition neutral, 3.x, 4E, in that order for me.

I am planning on continuing to play 3.x, but will at least peek at 4E. What it looks like will determine if i use it. I have mixed feelings on things I've heard so far.

I am a subscriber to both Pathfinder and the Game Mastery Module line, so I already send Paizo a lot of my loot.

Having this setting book be as usuable to many is my hope -- so edition neutral seems the best answer to that.

Well, as they keep saying, it will be pretty rules-light, as it should be:

The book must contain information about the races and what they're like in Golarion, about the nations, about daily life, some of the history, and so on.

What stat bonuses elves have or what a fighter actually does all day isn't important to the setting.

My take on this:

System: A setting shouldn't devote much space to crunch, in any case. My preferences would be statless, or very minimal stats, with complete stats in PDFs for different systems (my suggestions would be OSRIC or C&C, 3.5, and 4E), if stats are necessary at all.

Campaign Setting: Personally, I don't need/want another campaign setting. That's just me, though.

Most of us will be playing 4E? The biggest chunk of the market will probably move to 4E, but not all of it. Certainly not me; I'm well and truly off the new edition carousel.

Cover Art: That's not the worst Reynolds piece I've ever seen, but I've got some serious 'Reynolds Fatigue,' at this point. I'd rather see a different artist and a different look.

Price: I'll pay that much for good product that I'm interested in, but at that price it really needs to capture me.

Good news: That cover's just a mock-up. So it's only possible that WAR will make the cover for this.

I personally think that a setting book should not have an action-packed cover, though. Doesn't seem right. It's great for adventures, but not for a book that tells you about whole world.
