Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder Companion

I'm hoping the very vocal fans are representative of the less vocal ones. Paizo seems to be counting on that being the case.

I'm sure they've based their decisions on more than vocal messageboard demands and requests - you know, with stuff like sales figures and market forcasts and whatnot... :p

Im a little worried about my interest in Pathfinder when it goes 4E in the third ap (if this is still the case). If all this was 3.5, Id buy it all in a heartbeat.

That said, I would love to make my main campaign world Golarion (as a replacement to GH) as I like the feel of it so far. With 4E coming I dont know how much of the flavor will be preserved. Warforged, Tieflings, Dragonborne running amok in Pathfinder will be enough to keep me at bay. Then I think of 4Es magic system, Warlords and Warlocks in Pathfinder, etc ..... meh.
Why couldnt Paizo create this setting during 3rd edition? That would have been epic.

They were too busy producing Dungeon and Dragon magazines.

That being said, it has not been decided if Paizo is switching to 4E (since they still have not seen the rules or the GSL) and it's looking more and more like the third AP (The Second Darkness) may be 3.5

This is a double edged sword for me though as far as the campaign world sourcebooks go. If the first Golarion books are 3.5 and other future supplements are 4E, itll be a waste of money to me as well. Im worried about comitting to a new campaign setting only to have it yanked out from under me as its unfolding.

I'm not sure where I (or my group) stands on the Pathfinder material. We've got the complete 1st campaign, along with a half-dozen gamemastery modules. All of them are very good, very nicely done.

Generally I like the setting... But, and isn't there always a 'but', I'm really quite concerned with how 4th Edition is going to effect it all. Swapping to 4th Edition seems like a given, honestly I can't see Paizo not doing so before the end of the year at the absolute outside latest! It IS going to be huge, and they'll have to follow along or lead the way no matter what.

That being the case, I'd rather they made the transition sooner rather than later. It annoys me that some of their catalogue (and my bookshelf) will need conversion over, but unless they're going to take the incredibly unlikely step of staying 3.5 loyal for a while longer, I accept it has to be that way.

That said... Maybe waiting until they can start publishing for 4th Edition for these additional subscription releases would be for the better? The more they release on 3.5 now, prior to the 4th Edition, the more I see a lot of players being hesitant about books the know will be out of date. Unless these newer books are going to be system-free... Which is doubtful, it just doesn't seem as wise an investment as waiting a couple of months to release them as a 4th Edition line might be.

Then again, it's 4am and I might be talking out of my backside. Paizo seem to be doing damn well with the Pathfinder stuff so far, so who am I to naysay it?

That's a bit of a Pathfinder overload for me. Just getting the Pathfinder AP's was pretty expensive. I definitely wouldn't be able to afford all the rest of the stuff on top of that. I wonder if Paizo are putting too many eggs in the one basket here. I'm sure they know what they're doing though. If anything they are definitely not stupid.

That's a fair comment Olaf, but also keep this in perspective...

The modules used to come out monthly, now they're changing to every other month.

The new Companion books will now come out every other month too, alternating with the modules.

So.. They're not actually adding more products per month, they're just diversifying what they're already putting out now into two different types of book.

It was easy to start to get a glut of modules stacking up, this slows the accumulation of those a little, while also getting more 'player oriented' background material and fluff out there. Also, by splitting them into two different subscriptions you have more flexibility in the products you get.

So I readily see how it looks like they're piling on more products, but I think it's fair to say they're just diverisfying the content.

I think you were perfectly articulate, Eternal GM :D

They really want to get off the fence, trust me, they really do.

(Edit: By that I mean that they want to make a decision, but I don't know what that decision will be.. and neither do they, for reasons I elaborate on below)

Their fans want them to as well.

We're all just waiting on the GSL (and after that the rules), and that is out of everyone's hands except WOTC. They're the only ones that can do what's necessary for people to make informed decisions. And I understand that Wizard's has their own timetable, but they are hurting Third Party's in the process, as customers drop subscriptions for just the very concerns you've expressed.

Fortunately, they do really superior work which is netted them a loyal fan base.. I think we all hope for some news soon.
