Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder questions

I believe there are a couple of feats dealing with CMB/CMD already leaked from the final game. One lets you use Dex instead of Str for CMB, the other gives you a flat +4 to CMD.

Also, I don't think the idea behind CMB vs opposed rolls had anything to do with purple worms swallowing whole less often (it is their "schtick", after all) but more along the lines of eliminating the oppsed roll and streamlining the whole line of combat options. Anyone who thinks that ginormous, grappling/eating monsters from 3.5 won't still be grappling and eating with Pathfinder RPG is likely to be disappointed.

You seem to be assuming that there is some point to the discussion other than simply to have a discussion.
Years ago, I had a conversation on these boards about whether or not celestial seals had to worry about being eaten by celestial sharks.

Now THAT was a discussion that had no merit beyond being a discussion.
It went on for days. Great fun.

anyway...

So...do they?

CMD? CMB? definitions for my 3E atrophied brain thanks, the thread doesn't make much sense otherwise

CMB = Combat Maneuver Bonus. It's a lot like "Grapple" from 3e, but (among other things) the Special Size Modifier may be different than the flat +/- 4.

CMD = Combat Maneuver Defense. It's the target DC for a Combat Maneuver. We're not sure what variables go into CMD, but it looks like CMB + Touch AC.

In addition, the Combat Maneuver Bonus is used as your attack modifier for Bull Rush, Trip, Disarm, etc etc as well as grapple. The Combat Maneuver Defense is a static number, akin to Armor Class, the Difficulty Class an attacker needs to hit to pull off a maneuver. It's purpose is to eliminate the opposed roll for most of the 3.5 maneuvers.
