This game is what D&D 4th edition should have been. The changes to the D&D system can be seen throughout, and they are very positive updates to the core 3.5 rules and aims to make the system fun, easy, playable. For the uninitiated, the system and its extensivle library of supplements can seem daunting. Therefore, the system of PF can be off-putting to the newb. However, despite this, the PF core has everything in one book, PHB, DMG, and MM as well as campaign setting (Gorlarion) which makes it a very attractive retail package and nicely priced at $49.99.

It's a solid RPG ruleset, fixing many problems from 3.5. Still far too dependent on magic items, but decent.

Overall, the system was well-designed and easy to understand and run. Many of the books, however, had binding issues and the introduction of the Combat Maneuver Bonus and Defense mechanics proved problematic in dealing with many creatures.

The best iteration of the D&D 3.5 ruleset, with many little improvements on the original. It also helps that it's an all-in-one book, combining both player and GM material into one giant text. If you want a solid and well-supported variant of D&D, this is the book to buy.

Proving once again that Paizo is head and shoulders above the competition, the Pathfinder Core Rulebook comes stuffed to the gills with well written, superbly organized, and beautifully laid out content. Everything you need to play is here. The sheer length of the book might scare away neophytes, but anyone who takes the time to start reading will find one of the best introductions to a RPG and its rules ever written. Really a high water mark in the genre.

this book has every thing a player needs to play Pathfinder....all class, spells, rules and even a GM section! One book really has everything you need. It is a beautiful full color book with amazing art work. They cleaned up some of the annoying 3.5 rules (grappling anyone? ) and added a few things to make it easier and quicker. All in all one of my most used gaming books
