Pathfinder 1E Pathfinderey Gift Ideas

Nytmare

David Jose
I'm a non-Pathfinder player trying to piece together a "player's kit" as a gift for my sister. I'm not sure what her current character is, but I know that she plays casters almost entirely.

I got one of those big "looks like a big book" boxes from a local craft store, and am going to doctor it up as spell book.

Inside the box I was going to put a fancy ol bag o dice, and paint/sculpt a mini for her. I was going to pretty up a character sheet for her and put it on a bunch of rough cut, hand made paper.

Beyond that however, I'm running out of ideas. I don't think there are any books that she needs, but are there any caster specific books that I should make sure she has? Are there any Pathfinder specific player aids that are hot to trot?

Hmm: Good Question. Let me throw out some ideas for you:

  • GameMastery Invisible Character Marker: looks like this. Handy.
  • GameMastery Light/Torch Bearer Base: Characters that typically cast “light” can wrap this plastic base around their minis if they have an active light spell. Handy.
  • GameMastery Figure Flight Stands: These clear plastic bases have an elevated lift to them so that when her caster is levitating or flying, it is depicted as such on the Battlemap. Handy.
  • Dancing Lights Markers: The far more effective and "go to" 0 level light spell for an Arcane Caster to cast is Dancing Lights. Get her 4 Light markers for when she uses this spell. The markers are just moved over the battlemat as needed 4 Glass tokens, orange or red in color, will serve admirably. VERY useful in play.
  • GameMastery/Steel Sqwire Spell Radius Templates: There are various types and assortments of these wire radius templates – all of which are extremely helpful during play. There are a number of expansions to these, but this one is the base package:
  • GameMastery Campaign Work Book: Cherry Pi is 4 pages away from actually FILLING this book with notes and treasure over the past 14 months in our Kingmaker Campaign. So for her at least, it’s been very HANDY.
  • Spell Cards: Keeping with the hand-crafted theme, there are Perram’s Spell Cards. You might print those out in color on decent cardstock, (preferably in color using a laser printer) and use a guillotine or rotary arm cutter to see they are all spiffy, exact and pretty. To get ‘em all done, that’s a lot of work and a lot of toner. But I am sure it would be well WELL appreciated.
  • Software: Lastly, the big one: Herolab. This isn’t totally cheap - but at the cost of a new XBox 360 console game, it's not bank-breaking either in the grand scheme. At $30 for the base program and Core Rulebook, and another $10 each for the APG, Ultimate Magic and Ultimate Combat expansions (yes there are a BOAT LOAD of spells in Ultimate Combat) this software package would be the ultimate resource for planning out and leveling up and printing off her character sheet. You could print out the activation codes and download links on some spiffy rolled up faux parchment paper -- tie it off with a ribbon or use sealing wax to make it look like a scroll/important document. I absolutely swear by Herolab and consider it to be an EXCELLENT product that was well deserving of the Gold ENnie it just received at Gencon 2011. Highly recommended.

Hope these ideas are of assistance to you. Nice Gift Box idea!!

+1 to this. I used to just keep a list of my spells and flip back and forth through the book for descriptions... I love using Perram's cards (though I print them up on full sheets.)

Brilliant suggestions. I don't know why I didn't think about tearing through my unused 3.5 odds and ends for ideas. I've got a drawer full of spell effects and overlays that probably have the same sizes.

I might try to make/find a nice leather bound journal or something to throw in there as well.
