[PbP] EoM game: the graduates of Bluetower Academy

Kera just shrugs off Inkar's remark. The heart of the earth was fire. She then followed the others through the tent into the wasteland.

"If it gets too hot, I guess I could ward if off. But it would use almost all my mana to keep us all cool for any length of time. I'm not sure we'll have enough water though."

"I can provide food and water if we need it. Hopefully, we can get this completed quickly." Amisel says.

Elwent pulled the hood of his cloak up to keep the sun out of his eyes as he stepped outside. "Hmph. I can always call up a breeze if we need it. I doubt heat is the worst of what we will face, though."

Lets get moving.. I despite tests like these. There are enough challenges in the REAL world without having new ones created! says Inkar. He will take the front, his waraxe ready.

Amisel will follow Inkarr down toward the ravine to see what our test is. "I am with you, Inkarr, the sooner we finish this the better" Amisel comments.

The ravine twists and turns several times, growing deeper and deeper, the sides getting steeper and steeper. At some point the sun comes up and the air begins to heat up, but here in the narrow ravine you are shaded from the brunt of it - at least, until noon draws nigh.

The ravine seems interminable. After an hour of walking, you expected you would have seen other ravine intersecting it, or for it to join up with a larger river bed, but this is not the case. Indeed, as the morning draws on, you start to get more and more impatient with the Test. When will it begin in earnest? You don't remember the Tests for the students in previous years lasting more than an hour.

Just when you are thinking of voicing your aggrivation, you round a bend in the ravine and see a wider space ahead of you, perhaps the bed of what once was (or sometimes is) a small lake, about a hundread yards wide. The sides are still quite steep, and you can see no exits other than the ravine from which you entered. The air is blazingly hot here, and getting hotter.

In the center of the lake is a boulder, about ten feet wide. Next to it is a sign that says "Communal Well. Free water."

In front of the sign is a wizzened old goblin. He has no weapons or significant equipment of any kind. He seems to be waiting for something.

Inkar steps to the goblin. Why are you next to this well? Do you have something to say to us as part of our tasks? Inkar suppresses his instinct to bash the goblin into part of the scenery.

The goblin looks up at you with bloodshot eyes. He rasps out gleefully, "I capped the well! I capped the well! Nobody can use it now!" He laughs, a long, high-pitched sound that echos painfully off the steep walls, "I am King of the water, and that makes me King of the desert! Look at my Kingdom, you thirsty fools! Is it not grand? Is it not beautiful? I have the power of Life and Death! None drinks of water in my Kingdom without my permission! I capped the well! I capped the well!" His eyes roll madly and he laughs again.

You can see now that the boulder behind him indeed looks like it is plugging the opening of a large, circular hole. The hole looks to be about six feet wide, and the huge rock is polished to a perfect sphere with a mirror-like, precise smoothness. It fits in the hole perfectly, though its widest portion is several feet above ground level, with no gaps visible large enough for even a hair to fit through.

The sun is now directly overhead and the heat is making the air shimmer. You do not know how much longer you can take this.

"Oh, I think perhaps you are the thirsty one, goblin," Elwent asserts with a bit of distaste. "Aren't you?" He waved a gesture at the goblin, whispering something under his breath while his eyes narrowed.

Casting a level one version of Compel Humanoid - suggestion - 'thirst'

Inkar says I could try moving it with my strength, though we'll have to see what the goblin does. He takes some stone from the ground and tries to punch some holes in the smooth boulder.
