PC attitudes vs. NPC attitudes (on survival)

Quasqueton

First Post
Players fight to keep from having to make new characters in a game world, NPCs fight for their lives and souls in a world that is very real to them.

I liked this statement so much I started a new thread to discuss it.

I think you've got a problem - you're comparing players to (non-player) characters. Of course players and characters have different motivations. Good old apples and oranges.

A more valid comparison of motivations would be between the players and the DM, or between player characters and non-player characters.

That's not been my experience. Players generally are loathe to surrender or run. NPCs are more likely to try to save their own hides than PCs.

I think NPCs understand the danger more then the PCs because the NPCs are played by the GM who know what they are facing and knows that they may die (never get played again) if they don't fight the big bad.

PCs are just around to get played and find cool loot. :)
