PC fell down pit but it takes standard action to activate Boots of Levitation!

Geez, guys ... distance fallen is 1/2 a t^2. Acceleration of gravity is about 32 ft/sec/sec (to avoid converting from metric), so distance fallen is 16 ft * the square of the number of seconds. Six seconds of falling gives 16*6*6 = 576 ft.

Yeah, you are right. :)

The final number is pretty similar, tho (my above includes two rounding errors). ;)

Hmm, that's kind of a cool idea of a high and mighty noble who is too good to move his legs to walk. "The mighty Lord Roniphiscal scoffs at chaffing his legs by walking, you commoners!"

Heh. One of the characters in Steven Brust's Taltos novels is rather short... so she wears extra-long gowns and levitates everywhere.

Occasionally someone makes a comment... which she takes as an excuse to challenge them to a duel to the death... :)

My character takes a ready action every round while walking down the corridor to activate his boots if he falls.

You can ready a standard action, and a readied action interrupts the event that triggers it.

Even if you're permitted to use the Ready action, you have a problem.

Each round, you Move 30 feet... then you Ready an action to activate your boots if you fall. Since you're not moving any more, you definitely don't fall. Next round, your Ready action hasn't triggered, so you can either continue to stand there, ready to activate your boots... or you can Move another 30 feet. If you choose to move, you're no longer readying... so when you hit the pit trap, you're not prepared for it...

I think the closest the rules as written come to addressing the question is from the SRD/DMG on Tacical Aerial Combat:
Minimum Forward Speed: If a flying creature fails to maintain its minimum forward speed, it must land at the end of its movement. If it is too high above the ground to land, it falls straight down, descending 150 feet in the first round of falling. If this distance brings it to the ground, it takes falling damage. If the fall doesn’t bring the creature to the ground, it must spend its next turn recovering from the stall. It must succeed on a DC 20 Reflex save to recover. Otherwise it falls another 300 feet. If it hits the ground, it takes falling damage. Otherwise, it has another chance to recover on its next turn.
This implies that for game purposes, if one is "falling straight down," one falls 150' the first round, 300' the next (and succeeding) rounds. This is less than the physics equations quoted above would suggest, but I note that they omit air resistance.

Yes...for THAT pc. However, the pc pushing or pulling your character now hits the pit trap. I wonder if an unseen servant could do this though. Hmm, that's kind of a cool idea of a high and mighty noble who is too good to move his legs to walk. "The mighty Lord Roniphiscal scoffs at chaffing his legs by walking, you commoners!"

Unseen servant seems a bit ritzy, and using a PC seems a bit cruel. So just use an NPC...you know, one of those useless low level drones you get with the leadership skill. :)

Don't waste a feat on it! Just hire some local urchin for a copper a week.

He can be the same guy who carries your Bucket o' Puppies...

Ah yes. AKA. the blind kobold with the bucket 'o puppies (TM). Good thinking. But do you need a levitating bucket to avoid having your puppies killing....

Okay, that's it. I'm stealing that baddie from Dune who is so fat he needs to attach levitation stones to himself just to walk around.

Wonder if my players will notice?
