Gah, you're killing me John Crichton! :D
I can't even go back and see what was up, either as the laptop recently upgraded to WMP11. Doh!

Both my 360 and PS3 refuse to see my XP HTPC...
This was my third try that took many hours just to get the Vista PC to link up with the 360. I think I'll worry about the PS3 some other day. I do like the music player a little better on the PS3 but the slideshow, using my own pics on the 360 is pretty cool.

Took lots of googling to get the stupid thing to work at all with Vista.

I just downloaded Windows Media Connect (v2.0, as 3.0 and beyond are with WMP11), and my 360 and PS3 now see my HTPC perfectly.

Performance is very fast, too - far faster than the Orb option, above (though Orb has the nifty ability to connect to Youtube and the like from the PS3...).

* heads off to download *

Also, as a note, you can have both (WMC and Orb) on your PC, and the 360 and PS3 will differentiate the two - so you can have a choice what you access on said consoles (WMC shared folders, or Orb).

So, I use WMC to access my music collection and videos, and Orb for internet-related stuff.

Try as I might, I cannot get WMC to play (on the 360) most movie file types that I use. Stupid WMC. Do other people have this problem or just me?

In the end, I set up a docking station for my laptop on my TV. So, it isn't really a problem anymore. Heh. :)

Yeah, that's an uphill struggle with the file types. If you use a lot of DivX codec .avis, you can try Orb which I linked above. It can feel pretty sluggish though, as (IIRC) it's recoding the file to a workable codec for the 360 as it plays.

last night I tried and tried to get my XP Pro SP2 system to share its media with the 360. I went into and clicked on Share my Media on the Library Tab of WMP11. It never shows the Xbox 360 as a device on the network. Now when I use my Vista laptop it shows the 360 right away and video and audio sharing is super easy. But I cannot get the XP system to share media with my 360!!!

At least this is one time so far that Vista did something better than XP since I bought that laptop. :)

I think I've learned that it working may depend on your network for the PS3/360 connectivity.

Very annoying.

I have my 360 hooked up to three different PCs. One running Vista, one with XP Pro, and one with XP Home.

I had to download Windows Media Player 11 to get it to work on the XP machines. I also had to share my media to my 360. The XP Pro PC wouldn't show the 360 as a connection option until I turned off the Windows Firewall. But once I got it connected, I could turn the Firewall back on and it worked fine.

Two of my PCs are connected by wired connections, the third PC and the 360 are wireless. I have been able to stream movies, music and pics to my TV without a problem for the most part. I was worried about the wireless since my Xbox is downstairs and all my PCs and my router are upstairs but it works like a champ.

The first time I streamed a DivX video my 360 prompted me to download a codec, after doing so it played fine. However, I have found that some videos just do not play on the 360 but work fine on my PC. I still haven't figured that out. But 90% of the videos I stream work just fine.
