PC's Killing PC's

As someone who doesn't DM, I think that its perfectly fine...if warranted. Any PC purposfully being a goober (for lack of a nicer term) should expect a warning, and then a smackdown. Atleast from me anyways.

It can sometimes cause game shake-ups, but in most cases, there's already a game shake-up when there is PC-PC animosity, and then some people are expected to take crap from the other PC simply to avoid PC fighting. It don't work like that for me. My characters are always open minded, and will take a little heat, but if its a regular thing, that usually trancends characters from campaign to campaign, then said parties should go ahead and break out 4d6 and start rolling.

So in short, is PC fighting a good thing? No, but a player shouldn't have to take crap from another PC just because the DM doesn't like PC fighting. If he has a problem with it, he should take care of the problem before it degrades into scrapping.

When I was a kid DMing, I used to shrug as my PCs slaughtered each other.

It invariably ruined every game, or at least derailed it in the "cycle of violence" mentioned above.

As it stands now, as a DM I wouldn't let it happen but not by "reading the riot act" or disallowing it, but by fudging the die rolls and turning any fatal wound into just a serious injury. A critical fumble at an untimely moment might avert a deadly blow, too...

The "aura" surrounding a party that makes it a game faux pax to kill rival players is, to me, part of what makes D&D such a unique game -- i.e. its not competitive among players, but collaborative.

The group I play in really gets into the game but we don't take it so seriously that destroying another player's good time ever seems like a good idea. So far.

Of course, everybody's got their own style.

My brother is playing a neutral thief that wil evnetually become assasin (though im not so sure now. to become an assasin he wants to kill one of the PCs. i think i will allow this;). however, they are apart of the guild and the PCs have become of some importance. so when he kills one, i will have the guild put the group onto finding out who did it
