PDAs/SmartPhones and Gaming...

Having the www.d20srd.org accessible during a game is awesome, but I have only done it via laptop. I would love to get a tablet for gaming purposes, but I do not think using a pda would be very useful overall compared to full featured alternatives.

Depends on how you use it. I migrated from my Visor to a Treo650. Both had PalmWiki installed, which allows me to link all my notes together. I've got my entire campaign setting stored on my PDA and refer to it in-game. It's loaded with a a die roller, PDFs, text versions of the SRD and other utilities but only for emergencies (like leaving my dice at home). The screen is too small to display a lot of data and switching between apps is far from lightning fast.

If you want a super-smart notebook, get a Windows or Palm smartphone/PDA. If you want a full DM toolkit to replace your bag of books and dice, get a cheap laptop. (see http://slickdeals.net, there's a ~$400 laptop listed there almost every week)
