pdf download problems--need help!

Sometimes, when I try to download a pdf document, I am unable to.

Usually this happens when I hit the download link and a new netscape/mse window pops up and begins to load the pdf document. I end up with a blank screen.

I should say that I live in Moscow, Russia and I imagine that the quality of internet here has something to do with it. When I go to an internet cafe with a very high-quality connection, I usually have no problem.

Sometimes I'm able to download successfully, and sometimes not, and I can't figure out why. I've tried to download several copies of the Oerth Journal from the Canonfire (Greyhawk) website and can't get them; similarly I can't download a new pdf of Religion in Karathis at the Fiery Dragon website.

OTOH, I've downloaded several normally, such as the Wizard's amulet adventure from Necromancergames.com.

Usually, when the 'download' window appears saving the file to my computer, the download works fine. However, I'm not always given that option.

Any advice on this?

If your browser is opening a new window, this means you are not downloading the file but trying to view it online. And this can take very long for large pdfs. To safe the file to your harddrive, right-click on the link and select the "save file as..." option (works with Netscape and IE at least). Then, you can just view it offline later.

Also, if you install new versions of Acrobat without first un-installing the older versions on your system, then it will cause a common problem when trying to use Acrobat in a browser window.

If that is the case, then un-install Acrobat totally from your system (however many versions you have) and do a fresh install.
