PDF Product idea - artist please read

I noticed that Throwing Dice were doing a PDF on customizing your PC Check Here for the cover illustration.

I was disappoint to discover that it wasn't a collection of customizable pictures of characters. Like the cover illustration might lead you to believe.

That go me thinking....

how about doing a PDF (one for each race perhaps) in it you have

A male torso and female torso just in their skimpys.

Plus illustrations of a selection of....

different heads (about 6 to 8 of each sex)
hats or helmets (several unisex options)
armour types (some perhaps unisex, or different depending on the torso)
weapons
shields
shoes
clothes
perhaps magical effects

You could then build an illustration of character or NPC to reflect how your character is equipped in an art package using the elements provided

I figure this would be easier for an artist with a comic book style of illustration such as Claudio Pozas (hint, hint).

Anyone else think this is a good idea?

Hey, if you are going to go with my paper doll idea you should at least contact the original artist. Santiago Iborra is an excellent artist and if some one had some bankroll to pay him for all of this art, I'm sure he could do it.

When I came up with the idea, I really didn't expect people to be upset that it isn't a real paper doll book. (Check the link below for info about the actual book.)

Ahem. We men prefer the term "action figure".

:D

You could always do this as a "KiSS" set rather than a pdf. This will allow you to play with your paperdolls via the viewer, then take a snapshot and print your character.

This concept originated in Japan, so most KiSS dolls available are anime/manga style. Many years ago I had an "adventuress" doll set featuring a fantasy adventurer in a comic book style, but I can't find it right now. I even made some basic ones using my art, so the process isn't really complex.

Just an idea.

I can see it now "Paper Action Figures of the Arcane"

Just kidding, I have my hands full with the Creature/Monster cards in Vistas.
But I am sure some enterprising artist can come up with something.

Ignoring the paper doll conitations, am I the only person that finds just the right character illustration only to be disappoint they are using a longsword not a warhammer, or have leather armour instead of scale, etc.

This is what this sort of thing would address.

So you are looking more for a character sketch program, like this. Do you have any idea how many variations it would require to get it all the options you want? Eventually you'll want more heads, more armor choices, more clothing choices, more weapon choices. Sounds expensive compared to hiring an artist to just draw your character portrait.
