Penumbra- Seven cities. Review?

Well, I bought it and I'm about halfway through reading it. It's OK, but it really depends on how you intend to use it. I bought it because our characters are about to make an overland journey which will pass through several towns of various sizes. I plan to use the town maps in Seven Cities for the various towns they pass through.

So far, having read the chapters on the smaller towns, they could make good bases of operations for characters who are exploring a dungeon or ruins in a remote area.

I don't know yet if the larger towns and cities could serve as a good base for an urban campaign, since I haven't read those chapters yet.

Oh, I forgot:

The main complaint I have with the product so far is there aren't enough building maps. The few that are used also don't have much detail. I'm sure this was done on purpose, so that the DM can arrange the interiors of the buildings and put in whatever furniture he wants. But I would prefer more maps of the various businesses, buildings and temples described in the book.

Hate to say it but with the amount of review stuff I get, if it's not on my reveiwer list, chances are I won't review it. This comes more from the fact that the reviews often take more time than their worth compared to my job so I try and only do those that are provided me by the companies or the websites I work for. From what I looked over from one of my friends, it has far less crunchy material than Seven Strongholds.

It's not that I wouldn't want to review every product out there. I own most of the Mongoose Stuff and a lot of the Altas stuff and WoTC stuff but it's mine. I don't have to do a review of it. If something strikes me as really good like Van Ritchen's Arsenal, or really overpriced/bad like Canting Crew, I'll do a review of it. Otherwise, stuff like Seven Strongholds and Backdrops get put on the backburner as I try and finish the following:

The Hunt
Freeport
Dungeon World
Guardian
Shadowland

I find it harder to review settings than Crunchy bits like Beyond Monks, Blight Magic, Secret College, Spells & Magic, etc... (It was a very busy week last week trying to catch up.)

Glad to see I'm not the only reviewer whose a little picky with what he'll do.

Hell, if Morrus gets Wondrous Items of Power by FFE into the database, I can post that too! :D
