There is a kickstarter for A Time Traveler's Guide to Dinosaur Hunting. It has an image with a mind flayer (brain gorger technically) and some mutated raptors. The artist is Sviatoslav Gerasimchuk. I decided to draw a mind flayer petting a mutated raptor.

You saw my beholders. You saw my giff women. Did I just draw one mind flayer? Nope.

These ones have more squid like heads. Although it was suggested they could be regular mind flayers with pope hats.

I wanted a beholder that looks more creepy [...]

I thought it was a grell at first glance.

Now I think this looks like the child of a beholder and a grell.

Very cool.

Interesting design on the Menten. Do they grow more arms as they get older? I tried making a mind flayer with tentacle like fingers but never got a result I liked. In fact this had more failed experiments than my beholder images did.
Here is my sickly looking mind flayer.

The menten have a large amount of morphability. Given time, they can absorb or create additional limbs as needed, generally having 6-8 (4 arms and 2-4 "legs"). Their limbs don't have bones and are more akin to tentacles.

Some of the more unusual monsters I've made

Acidion - a "humanoid" made from acid (the sphere on the left is a child)

Acid Frog (note it has 3 front legs)

Anti-life. A spirit that came in contact with the negative material plane and must drain life to stay alive

Deathbeater - a spirit of a deceased miner that haunts the mine where it died

Eyemander (Eye Salamander) - a "cute" wizard's familiar for scouting

and a Zootholinic - a chimeric creature made of a variety of animals (baboon, zebra, cobra, ram, eagle, camel? and jaguar at least)

If you fight a mind flayer make sure it is dead.
