Perhaps no D&D 4th Edition is Being Planned Yet

Fluff is good. I like fluff. Well, with one qualifier: Eberron.

Many of the Eberron books have an astounding amount of fluff compared to crunch, and it works.

Um. Does that mean my copies of Twilight Tomb, Cormyr: The Tearing of the Weave and Shadowdale: The Scouring of the Land aren't Forgotten Realms books, despite the prominent FR logos on the covers?

Those have all come out since Dragons of Faerûn...

Adventure modules do not count. Neither do books like "Grand History of the Realms" either. I'm talking about books that add to the lore or cover the lore that has yet to be covered in the Realms. It's also nice to get more crunch in the Realms once in awhile like new feats, spells, creatures, etc.

Adventure modules don't add much to a campaign setting (unless the setting is brand new, like Eberron is). You journey through lands and towns established a million times already in previous books and editions of D&D and save the day yet again from a big bad evil organization like the Zhentarim, Church of Cyric, Bane, or Shar. Well what about Garagos or Null or Ilneval or other evil gods?

Now if the adventure is covering something brand new or hasn't been covered in forever, like say an adventure in Chult or Veldorn, then it'd be worth something.

Ah, gotcha. You were using "book" to mean "product that I like", rather than the more traditional meaning of "bound papery thing with words in it" :p.

While I'd also like to see some Forgotten Realms bo.... um... products that focus on regions and/or lore and have some crunch in them, I'm looking forward to the Grand History of the Realms and I also like the current hardcover adventure line. So at least for me, I reckon those count as books.

4Ed is not being planned.

5Ed is being planned.

4Ed is already printed and waiting to ship...but they're holding back on us to whet our appetite.

I don't know how they could possibly prevent this, whatever definition you use.
They can't, but they could make it very difficult to "access" that content in any kind of usable form, if they really wanted to.
