Permanent Buff Spell Items

No. The value of buff spells varies far too much to put a single price tag on all of them. Even for a specific spell, knowing the other materials/items allowed in the campaign is critical to pricing it properly.

I was thinking that I wanted to have Consumptive Field that is permanent on a scythe (avoiding the cheesiness of running by an anthill every morning to get +100 Str and CL). This is the equivalent of a 9th level spell (with permanancy). Would this cost the same as a 1/day Wish (or other 9th level spell) item?

id start with the cost of the original spell. tack on the cost and the material componants for the permanancy spell. just remember to upgrade both cost and componants for the permanancy since its supposed to only work on minor/not super useful spells. well goes to show should do my homework before giving advice forgot permanancy only has an xp cost to cast.

ive always wanted a pair of boots with a permanancy enhanced haste spell. /drool

Oh, I misunderstood you, I thought you meant have the spell enhanced with the Permanent Spell metamagic feat, which adds 6 levels.

This!

No formula will ever be able to accurately measure the effect of every possible permanent spell effect.

That said, there are some guidelines in the SRD, but yes, must keep in mind:
Not all items adhere to these formulas directly. The reasons for this are several. First and foremost, these few formulas aren’t enough to truly gauge the exact differences between items. The price of a magic item may be modified based on its actual worth. The formulas only provide a starting point. The pricing of scrolls assumes that, whenever possible, a wizard or cleric created it. Potions and wands follow the formulas exactly. Staffs follow the formulas closely, and other items require at least some judgment calls.

Oh yes, and they came from the DMG, not the PHB, so they're not intended for use by players.

I can definately see this as true. Ring of Divine Power =/= Ring of Freedom of Movement even though they are the same level spells.

Thank you for the link, now I would just like to ask: Does my proposed item (scythe with Consumptive Field) seem like it would be on the high or low end of the power spectrum? I am operating under the assumption that you cannot stroll through a city/forest killing every small thing in sight to get large amounts of bonuses and that they reset each day since I cannot hold the scythe while I sleep.

Never wake up still holding the tv remote, eh?? :)

As others pointed out, the DMG provides a formula-driven framework for establishing a uniform base price, which then needs adjusted for how well the item fits YOUR campaign and its relative value therein because the in-game fallout from using item should be the same as using the underlying spell in the same fashion.

I agree routinely wandering thru <whereever> randomly killing every small thingie would net you a WHOLE lotta side-problems from angry citizens, druid grove(s), etc ... even researching a way to limit the effect to specific creatures/type (say fleas or rats) would bring serious repercussions from highly annoyed agents of the various plague/etc deities reliant upon such "messengers" to work their various nefarious schemes; not to mention others seeking your research to expound it into the latest racial-killing weapon ... so yes it might be doable, but how's your hind-sight/back armor??
