Peter Gabriel and Time Will Come

PETER GABRIEL AND "TIME WILL COME" - This week I've been following my intermittent/staggered sleep schedule. Meaning I work late at night, sometimes all night and instead take small naps during the day. This afternoon I took a one hour nap and had a most peculiar but superb dream.

I had the dream right before waking up again. In the dream Peter Gabriel came onto a wooden stage. It was a very dark stage but in the background of the shadows you could see his band. they waited on him quietly. I knew he was gonna walk out onto the stage before he did, so I knew he was going to be the one to perform. I don't know why I dreamed of him as I haven't seen him or listened to his music in a very long time.

The crowd was very noisy, and I think the audience may have been South African. I couldn't be sure because of the darkness, but it seemed like an outdoor amphitheatre at night.

Gabriel walked out onto the stage. He was dressed in a long, tight, white robe which made him look much taller than normal. On the top of his head he wore a tall hat, the top of which was flat and wide, so that the entire thing look like a giant "T". (It reminded me of one of his crazier outfits from his early days with Genesis.)

He cleared his throat and the crowd eventually fell silent. Then he bowed low, rose again, and said, "I will now sing you a song. I hope you don't mind if I begin at the chorus..."

Then he began singing. He sang the first stanza a capella and then his band joined in. He sang for maybe five minutes and the music was very upbeat but the lyrics very unusual, even for Gabriel.

When I awoke I realized Gabriel hadn't written the song, but I had. (In the dream Gabriel had written and sung the song but in real life I had written it, and Gabriel was the dream performer in my mind.) So I got up and went downstairs to my office and wrote out every stanza I could remember. the song went on much longer than what I could remember but I got down every line I could recall (which was forty lines - 10 stanzas).

I know the music too, but I haven't had time to write that out yet, but I will tomorrow. It's in my head along with the instruments used. I call the song "Time Will Come."

I'll be sending the lyrics to some of you by email.

But I'm also curious. Have any of you ever had a similar experience? Where you wrote a song, poem, or story in your dreams? This has also happened to me recently with "Thus Fell the Witching Tree." So this is the second time in a little over a month where I've woken after having composed something in a dream.

Well, back to work...

Well, I'm not meaning to that I know of, but I keep going there for some reason.

But I'm also beginning to wonder if it might not be related to my unusual work and sleep schedules in some way. It's just a theory, but I wonder.
