I may want to publish one day. Or someone else might.

Or I may want to setup shop as a retailer one day and advertise all of the adventure paths to potential DMs.

Or I may just want a simple, universal term that I can use to search for a series of modules that encapsulate a campaign.

They may be killing off products developed in the future by their actions today.

Pathfinder Chronicles is a brand. Gamemastery is a brand. Adventure path is a product type. I think the industry needs the name to help improve the quantity and quality of that product type.
You just confirmed my 3rd point above, you (or someone else) want to tie into the phrase made famous by Paizo in order to make your own product more palatable to the consumers who already associate that phrase with Paizo, not the community at large.

At some distant point in the past WotC may have actually strung the 2 words together in a sentence, but today, right now, and in the foreseeable future when someone says "Adventure Path" you think of Paizo... not The Sunless Citadel as the beginning of an adventure path. [Capitalization is important here, the two are vastly different]

As has also been pointed out there are other terms that suffice and more importantly distinguish your or others products from Paizo such as Campaign, Saga, Adventure, Campaign Saga, Campaign Series, Adventure Series, Adventure Saga, or any number of others. If the term were really generic I doubt there would be any opposition to Paizo wasting time, effort, and money to trademark it. The uniqueness of the phrase is already understood by the community, and it could be construed that others want to tap into that uniqueness for their own benefit,

Well, this is where we're getting to an impasse. Gorillas are large primates that dominate their kin through brute force. Guerrillas are harriers and other lightly armored, highly mobile fighting units.

A 900 pound Gorilla would be effective. A 900 pound Guerrilla would no longer be a harrier or highly mobile fighting person and as such would no longer be a Guerrilla.

QFT. Glad to see the issue was all resolved on page 1, means I don't have to read the rest of the thread. :)

There is the flaw, in my view (your mileage may vary of course). When you think of "Adventure Path" the recently popularized phrase you dont think of Paizo, you think of Dungeon Magazine. Or I do anyway. And I think people generally do. I'm not even sure they coined the phrase. I agree they used it in their title and pimped the concept starting with SCAP. And I applaud them for it.

No one can sit there and tell me Paizo invented the concept of the adventure path--a series of adventures designed to take charaters from 1st through 20th level, released in installments, each of which could be a stand alone adventure or used as part of a whole.

Sunless Citadel? Forge of Fury? All the other modules of that adventure path? Sure, it didnt say "Adventure Path" on the cover, but that is the same concept. And it even existed before then, it was simply not as thoroughly executed.

I love Paizo, and I know the APs are a huge hit. But I just dont support TMing the word mark.

Sorry, I just disagree. When I thnk Adventure Paths, I think Piazo. I dont think Dungeon, which is dead.

Not to mention that Adventure Paths are continuing as Paizo's bread and butter post Dungeon and Dragon.

I mean; I agree that TMing the phrase is silly, but I just don't care enough to launch a campaign to stop it. Especially not a legal challenge to the TM filing.

People have the right to do silly things.

When I hear Adventure Path, I think a series of related adventures that take you from level 1 to whatever.

I don't think Paizo, nor Dungeon. One of the reasons I have been contrarian on this thread is because I dislike companies, any company, trying to trademark words or phrases which should be public domain. Adventure Path is one such phrase.

Its not acceptable and it instantly makes me distrust the company involved.

Can I start a PETITION to have Takasi stop stalking Paizo?

For real?
If the petition doesn't work I suggest trying lawyers and maybe getting injunctions or legal stuff or something. If that doesn't work and Paizo are still having problems then I can lend you guys a baseball bat if it would help? :)
