[Petz] Redesigning Battles

One design consideration that I should keep in mind is to keep the battles relatively short - if I can get battles between equal level pets at about 6 rounds or so, it'd be useful.

Thus, perhaps damage = 3d8 + Str/5 might be a useful code.

That's an average of 15 damage per round for weak pets, up to 31 damage per round for Rufus.

Perhaps the chance to hit would be based on Agility vs. Defense?

Cheers!

I like your previous idea of being able to choose whether or not to use a special attack; I'd also rather special attacks were different to the silly HP % attack. Perhaps they could affect abilities other than Health?

At present, that'd mean a permanent ability drain - I don't know if we want to go there yet, but it's something to think of once we start rehauling the code.

Cheers!

Not a good idea since the stronger petz gets the faster combat could be over even with petz at even level.

I suggest.

Normal Attack Damage = RND(25) + (STR*LVL)/10 - (DEF*LVL)/10

EDIT: maybe level shouldn't play such a major role, I'll tinkle around with the number a bit.

Ok, attack %'s I think should be based on STR and AGI and defense on DEF and AGI both combined with LVL on normal attacks.

On counter attacks the defender should loose the AGI bonus, sorta like being flat-footed so greater chance to hit but do less damage.

And special attack should have less chance to hit but do more damage.

I suggest that you remove the unecessary code that makes the pet attack the database instead of the opponent. ;)

Hit points also go up as you raise in level: +25 hit points per level.

Cheers!
