[sblock=ooc]If we rest, Periwinkle can come up with an obscuring mist, but it's only a 20 ft. radius from the caster, so that might not be terribly helpful. If we're going to rest, Pedalus could potentially come up with something better, like sleep. Other post-rest options include command, daze, summon monster I... Periwinkle and Pedalus are only level 1; not a ton of spell options.[/sblock]

Luck seems to be with you as you see the guard atop the wall stand, stretch, and yawn before turning and disappearing from his post atop the wall... You can all move forward unseen while he is absent if you wish.

OOC: Covaithe was right, this was supposed to be where the halfling rogue would shine. But with Halford gone, I didn't wanna NPC him forever and decided to get rid of him before realizing that the next part nearly required him. So we'll switch gears and turn it into a focus on someone else and their skills instead...

Peladus gives a low whistle, then chuckles quietly.

"Well, that was lucky. Shall we go?"

With that, he sets out towards to gate, moving as quickly and quietly as he can.

You all make it across the open space and to the gate without trouble. Now that you are closer, you see that the gate itself is a solid, fused mass of bone with the shape of a dragons head in bas-relief. The mouth of the dragon carving is a dark hole 4-5 inches wide and an unknown depth back into the gate. Under the chin of the carving is written something in strange runes....
[sblock=Draconic]I know you are curious, but if your character can't read draconic, then you shouldn't have clicked this right? I'm sure that the person whose character CAN read Draconic will be happy to explain it in short order so just have a little patience, okay? ;)[sblock=Draconic speaking PC's only]"If opened up you wish to see, then fed with magic must I be."[/sblock][/sblock]

Xir looks at the gate. I can reach the top now. Open it from there or leave a rope. Silence the guard. Must do it soon... He waits to see if anyone wants to mention what is written before going up.

Peladus looks surprised when he reads the inscription, then turns to the others and whispers, "There must be spellcasters here. This text says, 'If opened up you wish to see, then fed with magic must I be.' Now that either means that there's a lot of magic around ... or else that spellcasters are few, and in positions of control. Either way, I think I can open the gate, if you're ready?"

If people indicate that they're prepared, Peladus casts Ray of Enfeeblement on the dragon. If nothing happens, he'll frown, then take out a potion of Cure Light Wounds and put that in the dragon's mouth.
