Phat Weekend of Gaming

Wow, I just got done with Day Two of my group's Phat Weekend of Gaming. We played over 12 hours yesterday and just less than 12 hours today. Everyone who was present for the majority of the weekend is now epic level. They had some insane battles, including a fight with 3 solars, and tons and tons of great roleplaying, including a marriage proposal, a fateful decision by one pc to change alignment, agonizing religious conundrums for the cleric and more.

They also got the best treasure I've ever given out.

In defending a library of magic books for an agent of Boccob, each of them got to take one of the magic books. There were so many books that each of them wanted to choose from that it was a hard decision for everyone! (We're talking the kind of books that level you or give +5 inherent bonuses and so forth.) I had a list of 30 or 40 titles (and the effects) and each pc got to choose one... it was fantastic, I've never given out such a haul, but by limiting it to one book each and making sure there were multiple extremely attractive options for everyone I think I managed to avoid any treasure 'issues.'

Ahh, what a fine weekend! :D Great gaming, lots of character advancement, crazy battles- fantastic.

Damn, that sounded fun. :)

I would say I'm jealous, but our group got some good gaming in yesterday - I ran an old-school dungeon crawl for my players, filled with level-draining undead, some rather scary constructs, and some near-death experiences for at least two. Plus, one of my players got to try out Flame Strike with his cleric for the first time, and he saw that it was GOOOOD. :) He cleaned an entire 20-foot room of five undead in one shot. :)

Wow. And I thought I was living high on the hog by gaming twice this weekend for 4-6 hours each time.

Ah... the days of 12 hour games. How I miss you.

Saturday, noon 'til 5:30. 7th level characters being led through the Plane of Shadow by a Shadow Ranger who "shifts" through the shadow plane similiar to the Amber novels. Demi-goddess of shadow is steering them into combats.

First battle: 6 shadow Worgs, 2 evil shadow Treants (without animate trees ability), and one evil shadow Treant/6th level Druid casting Call Lightning. They beat the worgs and the two Treants, but ran from the Treant/6th level druid. Near death experiences for almost all the characters.

Second battle occured when shadow ranger led them underground as a "shortcut". 5 shadow minotaurs and 1 shadow minotaur/tatoo mage. He used the spell Benign Transport from Miniatures Handbook to swap minotaurs while he healed them. Again, many near-death experiences.

Much fun had by all.

Did you level, at least? :)

My Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday were filled with house chores and border-pasting, myself - that's how I was a good boy to win my Penultimate Gaming Day on Sunday. :)

Boy, I miss the days of "mega-phat" gaming sessions. When I was in school, some students in the psychology department were looking for other students to participate in a "sleep deprevation" study. What better excuse to stay up for 48 hours of gaming than that.

So, all 6 of us signed up and became part of the "overnighters". We actually got coverage in the university news rag (we were still considered geeks until Vin Diesel has come to save us), and managed to play for nearly 46 of those hours (the other 2 were spent eating as the psychology students decided that one test group would eat, and the other would go hungry). My group killed more bad guys than probably the rest of the year combined, and I think that each person gained close to 3 levels (and when you are already at 12th or 13th level in the 2nd ed rules, getting 3 levels is a LOT of work).

Being married with children really limits my ability to do something like that ever again, even if it was limited to 10 or 12 hours. At best, we get a 5 hour session once every three weeks. How I miss college...

I was there for the entire phat weekend of gaming, and I must concur, it was amazingly good. My character had all sorts of stuff happen to him (from very good to very bad to very strange) and I had a blast. Hats off to you Jester for making it happen. :D
