PHB - Human only?

PHB - Human only?

In my experience, the only reason people play humans is for the feats, skillpoints, or one of the other + favored class (any).

Me? I'd be so happy if the PHB had no humans/dwarves/halflings/elves. If it was all new/monstrous/whatever races. But I don't assume that half of D&D players would agree with that.

Right. Because there's absolutely no such thing as an interesting human.

Either you lead a very emotionally impoverished life, or you're talking nonsense. (That's an inclusive "or".)

(Or you're being sarcastic and I've just been trolled.)

So, you don't need other races to make interesting characters. Okay. Because humans can be so interesting, let's just get rid classes. You don't need classes to make interesting characters. And magic. Magic isn't real, so why do that? We can have interesting people. And monsters, we don't need monsters. Let's just make janitors and teachers and cops and play that. Right?

I can't wrap my brain around the concept that it's normal to fantasize about throwing fire with your hands or decapitating dragons, but it's aberrant to fantasize about doing that while not being human.

No one around me can cast magic, so that's different and wholly a fantasy. Everyone around me is a human, so not being one is equally fantasy. When I game, I don't want to be anything like myself.

Look, if you want to respond to something resembling what I actually said, I'm up for that. But if you're going to post nonsensical strawmen and attribute to me views I did not express and do not actually hold, my advice is to not waste your time or mine.

I don't see how what you said isn't what I responded to.

You also don't need to be condescending about it.

I often play them because they are the best fit for the character concept. I often play humans, but it's far from being the only race I play.

I guess that the players that would be OK with that are in fact a small minority.

Automatically assuming your opponent holds an idiotic position rather than a rational one is pretty damn condescending. Especially when it's done via sarcasm and ridicule. I used those things too, but at least I used them against something you actually said.

(Free clue: Disagreeing with one extreme view [playing a human is pointless] does not automatically mean I hold the opposite extreme view [playing a non-human is pointless]. As it happens I think both those positions are ridiculous.)
