Phb Ii

So this makes me think:

"The Dungeon Master’s Guide™ II comes out this month, and distributor orders for this book have been tremendous."

If distributor orders are really that good how much planning has already been put into a PHB II? I'd think that planning and discussions are already well underway for a 2006 summer release -- especially if there is no 4e planned for the next few years. After all, why leave money on the table?

We've had PHB II-VI:

XPH
CW
CD
CA
CV

What do you think PHB II should include as standard (not variant) rules?

I think a PHB II is inevitable. Hopefully it will have at least as many pages devoted to advice and such as it does to new crunch. Actually, it'd be nice if they waited long enough for the Complete series to no longer be bringing in the big bucks and just grabbed the best new classes from there.

Don't forget UA, which is also basically PHB2 -- class variants, magic system variants, class feature variants, etc.

I'd still like to see a monster-centric "culture" book. Too bad the name "MM2" is taken by that unworthy tome.

WotC answer: "PHB II" on the cover, to get huge sales. ;)
Yeah, but the idea of a Player's Handbook is to have the bulk of the standard core rules for the players. DM can restrict whatever rules that are in the PHB (for their game) but nothing in said book would contain variant or optional rules. All standard package.

How many more essential standard rules do we need to add?

Well if they were to come out with a PHB II it doesn't have to be *all* rules. It could be tips on various roleplaying styles, tips on creating character background and interesting traits. I'm not saying I am necessarily looking for a PHB II, I just thing (or at least hope) if such an item were to come out that it could have more than just standard rules.

Also, the best classes from the Complete books might be nice to have all in one place.

I agree with Iron Wolf, in the sense we add the best of the feats, new skill uses, and possibly a few of the new classes. (In my mind that means Hexblade, Warlock, Scout or Ninja, Favored Soul.)

But hey to each his own.

Figuring out which were the best -- but not so popular as to drive the sales of a Complete book all by themselves -- would be the real trick.

I have no interest in the Hexblade, for instance, and would prefer the Swashbuckler, but I've seen just as many people go the other way.

And I'd prefer they save all the Asia-flavored stuff for a 3.5 Rokugan-free OA update/replacement someday.

Actually, that would be really cool -- PHB II is not just a single setting, but a bunch of chapters on how to adapt various base & prestige classes, variant rules, etc. to fit a variety of settings.

One for Mythic Norse adventures, one for Mythic Greece / Rome / Egypt, one for Naoleonic era adventures, Mythic Africa, Mythic Asia, Mythic India...

(Yeah, I got lazy there and just stuck "Mythic" in front of a bunch of places... but the core idea remains cool! I swear it!)
