Phb Ii

When I first read about the DMG 2, I thought - "totally and completely unnecessary."

If a PHB 2 came out, I would think - "more options for play, might be interesting."

I cannot understand folks questioning the premise of a PHB 2 without doing the same, but far more justifiably, regarding the DMG 2...

From a business perspective,a PHBII makes complete sense.

That having been said, from a consumer standpoint - "A PHB II - that is just stupid."

"By sacrificing a musical instrument of at least masterwork quality, the Bard gains a +20 circumstance bonus on all Charisma checks and Charisma-based skills, and a +4 DC bonus on all mind-affecting spells or spells of the enchantment schools, for one minute. The bonuses work only when used against creatures with Intelligence score 6 or lower, halflings, or teenagers of any race. This is a supernatural ability."

Heh, this reminds me of a bunch of joke perks I was coming up with when my friend and I were messing about.

"The Solid 'fro."

Requirements: Only available at level one, only available to bard, character must have rhythm (13+ Dex), be hip (13+ charisma) and be the owner at least one righteous pair of shoes (with at least one inch high soles). They must also take a weakness for this to be available (disco fever, chronic bogart, fuzz magnet or any venerial disease).

When making any Perform: Dance checks or Perform: Singing checks the character gets an immediate +3 circumstance bonus. This is a bonus due to looking cool that can only be negated by extremely embarassing circumstances.

When attempting to use any bardic abilities or enchantment spells (such as suggestion), the character gains a +4 circumstance check against humanoids of any kind that can see the 'fro, and +2 against non-humanoid females that can see it due to the sheer sexiness.

The 'fro itself must be at least 6 inches from scalp to tip at any one point, and washed at least once every two days to retain its powers. It gives the character a -1 penalty to dodge AC at all times, due to them constantly having to make sure it takes no damage from mundane attack.

Should the character be caught subject to any spell requiring a reflex save, they must make a second reflex save at the same DC or take direct damage to the fro. They may gain a +2 circumstance check to this second check should they elect to take an extra d6 damage.

Should the damage incurred reduce the 'fro to less than six inches off the scalp or leave a sizable hole, the character will gain -2 to all aforementioned checks.

Damaged 'fros may be restored by a Wild Growth spell and an immediate trim, wash and protective balsam.

PH II? Nah ...

A Player's Handbook II?

Nah, I don't think so. The obvious strategy for WotC would be to hire someone who has already written a variant player's handbook, and Monte is not up for grabs ... ;)

Cheers!

I thought gamers were complaining about color hardcovers pushing up the price of books?

This is part of the reason publishing books can be frustrating; for every gamer that screams foul at a color hardcover there's another crying about perfect-bound, B&W books.
I don't see what's "frustrating" to publishers at all. Who cares what gamers scream and cry about? Just follow the sales - the market tells it like it is. (And who's screaming and crying - the precious few who hang around internet messageboards? Hmmm... doesn't sound like responsible market research to me.)

Well if they were to come out with a PHB II it doesn't have to be *all* rules. It could be tips on various roleplaying styles, tips on creating character background and interesting traits. I'm not saying I am necessarily looking for a PHB II, I just thing (or at least hope) if such an item were to come out that it could have more than just standard rules.

I'm not wild about seeing material I already have collected (in some cases, perhaps for a third time -- 3.0 class books --> 3.5 class books --> hypthetical PHB II), but this idea I like.

If I'd had to guess what was going to be in the DMG II, it wouldn't have been what actually turned out to be in the DMG II. ;) That kind of approach -- a mix of quirky and solidly useful tools, all in one spot, and aimed at players -- would be a very cool way to go for a PHB II, and I'd probably buy it.

And customers who assume that every other customer is just like them have no idea, either. All the people here who've bought every splatbook WotC has put out in the past five years -- of COURSE you're not going to buy a reprint book.

"OF COURSE" I'm not going to buy a book with reprints?

Dammit! And I really wanted to buy a single book with all of the good player content from the last few years reprinted.

Oh well, if you say so, Whiz, I guess there's no point but to accept it. :(
