PHB3 Debut: Ardent Speculation

The Swordmage Paragon Path 'Umbriri' in the FRPG was also a Shadow class.

Despite the shadow theme, I believe umbriri uses the Arcane power source - I'm pretty sure a paragon path always has the same power source as its base class. Yes, all the powers have the Shadow keyword, but they also all have the Arcane keyword, which is what you'd expect for a swordmage PP.

The interviews that I read had said the assassin was DDI only, and that some other races (like revanant) and other classes down the road would also only be DDI only. But I don't recall them saying the whole "power source: Shadow" would be DDI only.

Bingo. The assassin is DDI only. Nowhere have they ever said that the entire shadow source is DDI only.

Worldly Strike

You put the arcane energy of the earth into your strike, strengthening your blow against otherworldly creatures.

Encounter Arcane, Weapon
Standard Action Melee or Ranged weapon

Attack: Strength vs. AC (melee) or Dexterity vs. AC (ranged)

Hit: 2[W] + Strength modifier damage (melee) or 2[W] + Dexterity modifier damage (ranged). If the target has an origin other than natural, the attack deals extra damage equal to your Wisdom modifier, and the target is dazed until the start of your next turn.

Underworld Gambit

Shadows writhe around your weapon, infusing your attack with necrotic energy that deprives your enemy of strength.

Encounter Necrotic, Shadow, Weapon
Standard Action Melee weapon

Target: One creature

Primary Attack: Strength vs. AC

Hit: 1[W] + Strength modifier damage. Make a secondary attack against the target.

Secondary Attack: Charisma + 2 vs. Reflex

Hit: Charisma modifier necrotic damage, and the target is weakened until the end of your next turn.

First published in Manual of the Planes.

Just a couple of examples. PP are independent of the base classes Power Source.
