Philosophical question: Do games become "obsolete"?

It's funny seeing all the 3e lovers stating how much more evolved their editon is compared to earlier D&D editions, but ignoring how RuneQuest2 pretty much had everything that 3e brought to D&D (Unified mechanics, comprehensive skill system) and some more (usable system of hits to particular areas vs armour).

The fact that 3E is "evolved" from earlier editions doesn't mean that other systems weren't also "evolved" from earlier editions.

Maybe because I think that there are one or two posters around that dislike any implied criticism of 3e. Generally this is a sensible and polite board, but when we start getting close to edition wars stuff people can be a bit sensitive.
