Dextra, in addition to my small DVC camera, I plan on bringing my digital Elph. It can take hundreds of pictures and I'll be happy to hand it off to someone to take pics while I'm doing the video.
If it happens that you're bringing a laptop and don't mind installing the Canon software, I can download the pics directly into your computer to walk away with at the end of the Con. If not then I'll just throw them on a CD and send them along when I send you the ENnies DVD's.
Speaking of which: How long do the ENnies typically last? I can run two hours of tape at a stretch and it doesn't take me long to switch tapes. But if it's going to run longer than that then maybe we can try to build in a very short break so nothing gets missed on the video. It's also worth noting that if the video runs longer than 2 hours it'll have to go onto an additional DVD.

I'll have a laptop with me (not necessarily at the ENnies, but at GenCon), and Michael will of course have his laptop for the powerpoint presentation. I would love it if we could dump everyones' pics by the end of the con onto our confuser. Sweet!
The ENnies can't go longer than an hour- we only have the hall until 11pm. I've been allowing 5 minutes for an introduction, and 5 minutes per category. I'm hoping for a 10 minute intermission at around 10pm (ending no later than 10:30) during which you could switch tapes. I'm planning on presenting 14 awards before the intermission, then four awards after.

Ugh. Well, I've done the rough cut of the ENnies and I'm not terribly happy with it to be honest. When I was visualizing what the ENnies would be like, I had no clue as to the scope and granduer of the Indiana Roof Ballroom. I thought we would be in a space similar to where they held the seminars. In other words, plain, small and fairly well lit.
Instead we were in this awesome, huge room with low lighting and spotlights on stage and I was a good 200 feet from the podium. It was REALLY stretching the limits of what this camera can do well to shoot from that distance and the picture came out a bit grainy. Add to that the fact that I stupidly forgot my tripod and had to borrow one from Cthulhu's Librarian. While it was very nice to make his available, it was a bit old and crude compared to the one that I'm used to using. Combined with the distance and every little adjustment to the camera angle is jerky. To top it all off the auto-focus on that camera is VERY sensitive at that distance and with Piratecat stepping forward and back from the podium, it tries to refocus a lot.
I'm trying to remind myself that I do this for a living and my standards for myself are pretty high. Maybe other people won't think these things are so bad but I am a bit disappointed in myself. If I'm allowed to do the video for next year then there are some things I'll definately do differently.

I'm sure it'll be swell. I'm also going to try and find out who had the camera on the floor and see if we can't combine footage along with Michael's excellent Power Point presentation.
