Photoshop Cartography Society...

Generic Map Symbols. Just tossing a few out there as a bump. Obviously these aren't high color or art, just something I made up to see how many I could bang out in 15 minutes as an exercise using PS' custom shapes.

Edit: Thumbnail is ugly, I suppose because of the transparency I left in the image.
I like those James -- I could use objects like that in some of the large scale maps I do.

Which has me thinking... would it not be neat to have an application that allows users to create large scale maps with large scale art tiles? (20'' x 22'' and higher)

It'd be cool. It would be for a small niche group of professional fantasy cartographers, but cool nonetheless.

I'll try to come up with some more 'basic graphics writ large' in the near future, maybe someone has any suggestions? I've been thinking that I might dish out a mountain or two, and maybe some castles? I'm trying to spend as little time possible, so that these things stay really simple and scalable - but I suppose if someone has something more involved that won't break the bank in details I'd consider doing something a little bit more complex.

I found several actions at the Adobe Studio Exchange that photoshop users may find usefull;

http://share.studio.adobe.com/axQuickSearchSubmit.asp?txt=mapmaker&allprods=2

Here is the description: Mapmaker generates a random world map, complete with continents and oceans. Land masses have beaches, deserts, forests, and snow-capped mountains. The oceans show shallow and deep areas. There is an additional action to generate clouds. MapMaker can be used for website backgrounds or for custom AD&D maps. It's never the same map twice!

The other is a variant of this one. The third action applies a hex grid. I had fun playing with these for awhile. Sorry, I don't have any examples here at work.

P.S. You may have to sign up to be able to download these actions.
