Photoshop mapping...

DN….

What about doing the 1 level of the map on one layer. Then have the layer above it be all black and cover everything. As the players search through rooms, use the eraser to uncover the areas they explore? Then do as you have been with saving the file and uploading it. This way it makes it easy to uncover only what the party has found.

I see someone else had the same Idea, I couldn't get to the second page becasue the server was busy, and just went straight to submit when I got back in.

one of the advantages of being a govt graphic designer, lol. I don't do it often though, normally, I print out on 11x17. So, no one has ever seen an archive of photoshop mapping images?

No. But after seeing your maps, I wouldn't mind getting my hands on some of your source materials. :D Also, I do a lot of mapping in Illustrator and I still have the templates for a lot of the furniture that I use.

I made all the images except the stone ones did have many borrowed images though, anyway, I'd be glad to post the photoshop files if you wish, just need a place to put them. They are quite large as you can imagine.

A PS archive site for mapping would be wonderful! I would be happy to design a site for it, but keeping such a site updated would be too much for my current workload... school (graphic design), day job (target), side job (Thunderhead Games and another sites webmaster), homework, homelife, gaming prep, etc.... Its a wonder that I get the chance to lurk here every other day!

Free decent webhosting is not a problem. There are many places that you can get 50+ megs, and multiple acounts solve the space problem anyway. Just link to other hosting :)

Paint Shop Pro Maps

I use Paint Shop Pro for all of my maps.

Here are my D&D3 maps:

http://the-never.net/regionalmap2.html

(this second one is Cinder, which is the moon of the D&D 'planet' where my campaign is based.)

Here are my maps for Star Wars:
http://the-never.net/future/raosector.html
Rao-Sector- the 'regional' map of the area where I am planning to set my campaign.

A few star systems:

http://the-never.net/future/hurloonsystem.html
http://the-never.net/future/nepenthesystem.html

All of these were done in straight Paint Shop Pro.

Well, most graphics professionals use photoshop, that's the program I know and love, so the one I use :). I did use Paint Shop Pro once, seemed a bit clunky and limited, but that's just my opinion from a one time use. I'm sure it's good in skilled hands :).

To me, the biggest difference was price. I don't like pirate sdoftware, I try using only legal software, and Paint Shop Pro used to be much cheaper than Photoshop... :(

Arravis. I have an FTP server that you can upload them too if you'd like. And don't worry about the file sizes. I've got plenty of space. :D If you'd like to upload them, give me your email address and I'll shoot you the info you'll need.

A place to swap photoshop maps would be awesome. I've been working on adapting all my maps from hand sketches to photoshop files lately. I need more practice, so I'd really like to see more of what other people are doing.
