Maybe instead of two halves of a globe, it could be a globe and some sort of moon satelite ioun stone sort of thing. You have the one globe, which is somewhat powerful, then a smaller globe which has some effects, then when you bring them together the smaller takes an eerie sort of orbit magnetically (or otheriwsie) around the larger and produces some world shaking effect (or something, anyway...)
