D&D General Pick a Theme

Imagine you were in my games and I gave you a choice if 4 themes.

They are.

Eberron
Vikings
Pirates
Greyhawk

Vikings are Northland's in the Midgard setting. Cold, Ragnarok, exploration, Giants.

Pirates. Naval themed probably incorporating Saltmarsh, Sasserine and elements of 3.5 Saltmarsh and Pathfinder Skull and Shackles.

Greyhawk is restricted Greyhawk 1E alignment and racial restrictions apply. You can pick Drow or Tiefling but don't expect to have it easy.

No right or wrong answers just wondering where people would land.
Greyhawk all the way baby

Depends on the style of viking. Some were raiders and pirates but more were explorers and traders. I have a fondness for Norse mythology so that's probably the direction I'd want.

On the other hand, if the vikings are just bloodthirsty (evil) raiders that's not a good fit for me. At that point I'd rather do Greyhawk because that was the first published campaign I played in/used so it has a nostalgic draw.

Probably Vikings if it were being done in a Norse Saga kind of way. Pirate come in second. The other two options are just settings and it would really depend on what the elevator pitch was. If it were a third pillar skulduggery and intrigue campaign set in Eberron that might be my first choice.

Eberron, then Pirates. Or both together, it's certainly doable.

While it's not that pirate-y, the Savage Tide adventure path from 3.5 remains a favourite of mine, I've debated running it in 5e.

Personally I wouldn't go with Vikings, but only because I recently played a game where we were all dwarven Vikings. In that one I played an artificer who was descended from Fafnir, and had a dragonmark as a result.

I'm having a lot of fun running an Eberron game, and would certainly enjoy a chance to play in one.

I would like a pirate themed campaign. We played 3e Isle of Dread arc and the first part was great when the PCs were exploring in the city and stopping along the trade way. Red Crimson cult and such.

Thinking it over i am actually not sure after all if id prefer Vikings or greyhawk. If i could id like something somewhere in the middle.

That said, this is running on the assumption that you meant that the viking material would be under the midgard rpg's setting. Im not sure thats what you meant upon later contemplation. If you werent talking about the rpg that is named that and instead were in fact talking about the mythologicaly associated realms of norse mythology then i have to say id 100% go with vikings. Im just not sure thats what you meant though because there is also an rpg called midgard and i had assumed that it was what you were refering to when i gave my first answer.

If I could play a respected rune caster, I'd go with Vikings. Otherwise, Greyhawk. I'm not a fan of pirates and Eberron is the opposite of a lot of what I want in D&D.
