Pick pocketing results

Hello all!

It just happened in my campaign that the thief (sorry, rogue ;) ) started stealing purses from tavern patrons to fund his evening entertainment. I had no problem with it until he actually asked exactly how much he could steal like this.

I ruled that he could make as much money from this as someone would from a perform check using his pickpocketing check instead. I would modify the result according to the type of tavern he's in (since patrons of a tavern on the docks and those in a "restaurant" in the upper class district probably do not have the same amount of money in their pocket).

What do you think of this? Is there any published set of rule on this? Do you have a house rule for this?

Well, it certainly should yield more income than perform, since there is quite a risk involved.

I don't know of any rules for the amount of money carried by average people of various social standings, tho.

I usually just decide something appropriate.

I'd use the Perform DCs, but I'd make him set his own DC. If he succeeds, he makes the indicated money. If he fails, he gets caught by someone who'd have that kind of money.

Also, I'd make the check take less time than a Perform check -- say, 1 hour instead of 8. Thus, picking pockets is faster and can yeild more moolah, but you get up to eight chances to fail each day.
