The fine folks at Dragon Magazine have a thing for Demons. Many around here thing Yugolth's don't get the attention they derserve. I've always seen Devils as the ultimate evil (I think it's the old Dragon articles from back in the 80's). Where do you stand and why?

Don't make me choose! I love them all!

That said, I'm going to go for demons. Baatezu were a major antagonist in my Planescape game, and I've used yugoloths as manipulators in both Planescape and Eberron (my latest Eberron campaign's BBEG was even a yagnoloth trying to restart the Last War). But I love demons, and haven't gotten a chance to use them front and center in too long. Such delicious variety!

Demiurge out.

Devils all the way. There are already too many demons (many of which seem more like devils in their description, e.g. arrow demons which are described as being disciplined and regimented), and the books are filled with Chaotic Evil monsters, probably influenced by the fact that people tend to think that Chaotic Evil is the Evilest Evil.

Yugoloths are ok, but people tend to take their "caught in the middle of the Blood war so they are sneaky power brokers" thing too far and make it seem like the demons and devils are all complete idiots.

Wow! Tough call.

I voted Demon- Orcus, Shadow Demon, Vrock, Glabrezu, others. More demons come up in my campaign than the other two types. Demons, like spirits, tend to come up in OA-themed games quite a bit. They're flexible. I've even made up demons on the fly. They're a good all-purpose baddie.

However, I like the Bone Devil among others, although I've noticed in recent years there doesn't seem to be as much for devil type listings.

My favorite Yugoloth, formerly known as "Daemons" has got to be the Ultraloth. He was my favorite back in AD&D 1st Ed, and still runs high on my list of mid-high level nasties.

Good poll! Really made me think.

I voted demons.

1) I like that there can potentially be infinite varieties, allowing for some creative new types to spring up somewhere.
2) Most of my favorite Archfiends are demons: Orcus, Graz'zt, Demogorgon, Kostchtchie.
3) My players hate them :)

Whereas with devils you run out after 83,543 different kinds, not counting devil-hybrids.

Demons. Two reasons:

1) I think Glabrezu are neat and have used them a couple of times as major-creepy BBEGs. Probably my most successful BBEG.

2) You don't need a random fiend generator for devils and 'loths. That appendix is (best) for the demons.

I voted yugoloths. They are the true masters of Evil. Baatezu come second, and Tanar'ri are way back in the third place.

Regards.

For me, it's all about the demons. They're evil that cannot be defined - no matter what you think you know, there's always a new kind down in the Abyss, ready to wreak unsuspecting havoc on you. The demons have no universal structure - there's no Lord of the Nine or Oinoloth who could be defeated or destroyed to deal a blow to demons as a whole. They can't be defined, they can't be predicted, and they can't be stopped.
