The books look quite thick. Bigger than the 3.5 ones.

Are you kidding? They are tiny! I held a ruler up to my screen and they're not even half an inch thick!

That is because your monitor is too small, try a 110 inch screen with a projector and you will see that the new books will require a cart to move!

for some reason I was momentarily confused by the fact that they're hard cover...

I guess the softcover preview books they put out just had me in the mindset that they'd be softcover...
