Pictures of d6 -done!

By what method are you actually going to generate a random number?

This is more of a test of my coding style. True randomness is very difficult. Math.random will be one way and for the second I'm using the date expressed in miliseconds. I grab the date, use modulo 20 (well, (seed_value % 20) +1 really) to generate a number from 1-20, wait that many miliseconds, re-grab the date, and modulo 6 to get a d6. I'm almost done. I'll post it here, but frankly it is much, much too big to be used by gamers. I mean, you could and all. But frankly for a web-based app, you'd be better off with a simple applet. This is all J2EE and struts. Sort of like throwing a Balor at a 1st level party.

And what market are you looking in? I seem to recall my recruiting firm looking for Java folks. They are based in Charlotte. But they place people in Richmond, and Raleigh as well. If you're interested. The cost of living is much less than in D.C., which IIRC, is where you live currrently.

Thanks! However my lovely and talented spouse is an energy economist for a DC think tank. We're kind of based here. Nice of you to think of me though.

Mods, you may want to move the thread to software at this point.

I vote you use this- http://www.balloonlink.com/Images/March 99 - N0 22 Cube Dice.jpg my favorite of the search I did. :)

Yeah, I saw that. But the problem is that I couldn't find enough "wacky" pictures of solitary d6s with all the numbers. Thanks though!

The finsished product is here: http://www.parentsbasementgames.com/randomStrutsWorkspace.zip

There is no documentation. That's what I'm doing today. If you don't know how to install Java or the Tomcat webserver, this is completely useless. It is a 2MB product to roll 5d6. This is the complete workspace, source code, binaries, libraries, ANT builder and all.

toss this in your webapps directory in Tomcat. use ant webapps to compile or just move the randomStruts.war file up into the webapps directory. http://localhost:8080/randomStruts will take you to the first page. Press the button and enjoy the majesty of the world's most inefficient -- but object oriented -- d6 roller.

That's crazy. Yet, inaccurate. To be a true d6, the 3 should be on the opposite side of the 4. As it is, it appears that the 3 is adjacent to the 4.

I think that the "3" is actually the right half of "6". If it was 3, the dots would be going diagonally away from us and we would only see 2 dots and maybe a tiny bit of the 3rd dot.
