Piercing damage against Skeletons

The Harlequin

First Post
I was playing in a friends game today. He is currently running the Forge of Fury module. Do not read this if you have not played this module and you do intend to.

SPOILER.....................................

So the party came up against some skeletons, the ones that are acting as bodyguards for the wight. The fighter decides to fire his bow at a skeleton, since that what he had in his hand, and he hit but the DM said that he did no damage.

Now having run skeletons in my own games, the MM says that they take half damage from piercing and slashing. And the DM said that the module itself states that the skeletons take no damage from piercing.

Personally i think no damage or something like 1 point of damage per attack from a piercing weapon makes sense. But in the MM it specifically says half damage.

Anybody know what gives ? Or do you have your own thoughts, ideas or rules on this ?

If the module says that, it's in error (as is the "DM's survival kit" in the back of the 1st printing of the PHB). Skeletons take half damage from P and S weapons, just like they always have.

Yeh thats what i thought. But i wasnt sure if there was an official ruling on this.

Isnt the no damage from piercing a throwback from second edition ?

The "no piercing damage to skeletons" was clearly in 3rd Ed. at an early point, and removed late in the process. It's on PH p. 97 under "Type" and had to be errata'd.
