Politically Incorrect Games (PIG) is pleased to announce that it has acquired the intellectual property rights to the Story Engine and Maelstrom Storytelling roleplaying products originally created and published by Hubris Games.

Story Engine is a set of universal rules that were designed to run story-based games without the vestiges of wargaming that shackle so many other "storytelling" games. Its relative rather than linear scale accommodates everything from gothic and film noir settings to heroic fantasy and super-heroes. Action is resolved in whole scenes and can turn crucial moments into dramatic scenes. Both dice and diceless play is supported, and coupled with its innovative mechanics, Story Engine adapts seamlessly to any genre, providing fluid and fun games that focus on story and not the rules.

Maelstrom Storytelling presents a world of shifting realities, all tied together by one consistent storm. Home to alien cultures, Leonardan magic, gunpowder and pseudo-science, the game caters to different styles of play. From piracy on the high seas of the Outer Crescent to illegal duels at the Queen's Amphitheater, this setting touches on magic, science, and the world of dreams. Maelstrom Storytelling is a stand-alone game or can be used as a sourcebook for Story Engine.

Story Engine is now available once again in PDF format, and Maelstrom Storytelling and its supplement Dacartha Prime are planned for re-release in PDF format shortly. While PIG has plans for further development of both products, the specific announcements are to be made at a later date.

Look for Maelstrom Storytelling to be re-released in PDF format shortly. Dubbed the Dogbound Edition, Maelstrom's layout has been optimized for printing and includes only a minimum of artwork.

With alien cultures, Leonardan magic, gunpowder and pseudo-science, Maelstrom caters to many different styles of play. The Maelstrom is a different world, a world where reality shifts and time is fickle. The gathering of lands called realms are linked together by ideas rather than maps. The laws of physics, so closely held by our modern society, don’t work quite the same way here. The reality of the situation changes around the inhabitants in small ways, and at the same time it always stays the same. From one landmark to another could take a day’s walk one day, but the next it might take an hour’s easy travel, and the next day, the destination might be gone entirely. Even time appears to vary subtly, like currents, through cycles like tides. Mechanics, even the most simple ones attributed to complex mechanisms, work differently from one realm to another, one creator to another. But behind all is a maddeningly elusive order—because in the Maelstrom, there is a certain chaos to any order.
