I've made the experience in 3e that house-ruling just isn't worth it most of the time, especialy when playing with different groups and DMs. Just let everyone stick to RAW, makes lot of things easier.
My experience as well.

I'm going to play it straight, but make notes of things I would like to change/add as I go along, learned through actual play instead of how I did it with 3e, which ended up very badly. "Critical fumble provokes AoO" was probably the most horrendous HR I ever ran over roleplaying games I've ever run. *shudder* So, through playtest, I'll have a list of things I'd like to change, and put that into playtest later, after I've played a campaign without alterations.

I'll run it as RAW at first, but unless 4e has something similar I'll import the stunt system of Iron Heroes after a little polishing and tweaking.

For the uninitiated: the stunt system of IH - a D&D variant - allows people to grant themselves bonuses by making checks of some sort. It's open-ended so I can't quote a solid rule, but I can give some examples:
* Punch a drake in the throat to prevent it from using its breathweapon (system: make opposed attack rolls to disable one special ability for 1 round, or maybe more rounds if you accept a penalty to your roll).
* Adjust your Magic Missile's arcane 'frequency' to resonate particularly destructively with a Spell Ooze's body (system: make an Arcane skill check to get a damage bonus).
* Tumble around the defenses of a sluggish ghoul to strike it from behind (system: make an Acrobatics skill check opposed by an attack roll of the ghoul to get a bonus to your attack roll).

A stunt probably will take a swift action to make, I think. It'll be a little complex to do but I think it can work out fine and fits with the feel of 4e so far.

I'm designing a big homebrew world for 4E, and I already have plans to re-fluff most of the races. It'll be minor tweaks for most of them, slightly more major tweaks for eladrin and tieflings, and huge changes for the dragonborn (I plan to graft dragonborn stats onto a totally different race). However, I'm going to avoid making changes to the actual rules until I have a feel for how they work.

Unless there turns out to be a real good reason not to, I'll be swapping "static defenses" for a "characters roll all the dice" varient. I like the fealing of saves better than attacks vs. static defences. Keeps the players more involved and generates a higher degree of randomness, while at the same time sticking closer to statistical means.

I also look forward to adding new Pacts to the Warlock. The Warlock is the class I'm most curious about.

I'm going to try to resist my natural tendencies to tinker with the ruleset. About the only thing that may make me do it would be if the rules didn't allow for some particular element I'd like to have for my homebrew.

IF 4ed uses a skill system like SW:Saga, I'm house ruleing that system. I'll either create a feat that allows one to take a skill that is not normally a class skill and allow someone to treat it as one (but they still have to chose that skill to have it as Trained) OR just revert to skill points and go class skill/cross class skill.

Otherwise, I'm terrible at number crunching and forseeing where house rules can be broken usually does not happen with me till I see it in practice, so I try to avoid it when possible.

Still, I'm looking forward to seeing OTHER people's new talents, talent trees, and so on and picking some up for my game.

All you people tweaking, house-ruling, noting rules that don't work. Don't you see what you are doing? You are just giving WotC the chance to accumulate reasons for putting out yet another new edition in a few years.

If people don't want another edition, we should all just state how much we love 4e, how perfect we think it is and how it could never be improved upon.

4e: Resistance is futile. ;)

Please note: This post was made completely tongue-in-cheek. I'm sure if I ever get to run a 4e campaign, I will do as others here; run it by the RAW for a while before unashamedly stealing house rules others post on the EN World boards.
